Mykhailo Petrovych Mudryk (Ukrainian: Михайло Петрович Мудрик; born 5 January 2001) is a Ukrainian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Ukrainian Premier League club Shakhtar Donetsk and the Ukraine national team.
Club career
Early years
Mudryk started playing football at Metalist Kharkiv in 2010. He then moved to the Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk academy.[citation needed]
Shakhtar Donetsk
He moved to the Shakhtar Donetsk academy in 2016.[citation needed]
2018–19 season
In the 2018–19 season he played for Shakhtar Donetsk in the U21 category.[1] In 2018 he was part of the senior team.[2] He was given his senior debut by Paulo Fonseca when he was 17 in a Ukrainian Cup match against Olimpik Donetsk on 31 October 2018.[3][4]
Loan to Arsenal Kyiv
In February 2019 he was loaned to Ukrainian Premier League side Arsenal Kyiv for the remainder of the 2018–19 season, playing 10 matches without scoring any goals.
2019–20 season
He played in the Ukrainian Premier League against Desna Chernihiv, Kolos Kovalivka, and Oleksandriya giving the contribution to win the title in the 2019–20 season.[5]
Loan to Desna Chernihiv
In the summer of 2020 he signed a loan agreement with the Ukrainian Premier League club Desna Chernihiv and qualified for the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.[6][7] He stayed 4 months in Chernihiv and played 10 matches in the Ukrainian Premier League and once in the Ukrainian Cup.
2020–21 season
On 8 January 2021 Mudryk returned to Shakhtar Donetsk, playing 3 matches in the Ukrainian Premier League.[8]
2021–22 season
On 30 June 2021 he scored in the friendly match against TSV St. Johann im Pongau[9] and on 5 July he scored against Türkgücü München.[10] On 25 August 2021, he played against Monaco in Champions League qualifying replacing Manor Solomon in the 82nd minute and qualifying for the group stage.[11] Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Roberto De Zerbi said he is set to bring the young Ukrainian player to the top level, and that he is one of the best young players. "If I don't bring him to a high level, I will consider it a personal defeat." said the Italian coach.[12] On 18 September 2021 he scored his first goal in the Ukrainian Premier League against Mariupol at the Volodymyr Boyko Stadium.[13][14] On 28 September 2021, he played his first UEFA Champions League match against Inter Milan replacing Manor Solomon in the 78th minute at the NSC Olimpiyskyi in Kyiv.[15] On 27 October, he played against Chornomorets Odesa and his team advanced to the Ukrainian Cup quarter-finals.[16] Following numerous strong performances for Shakhtar, Mudryk attracted the attention of a number of European clubs including Sevilla and Arsenal.[17][18]
2022–23 season
On 6 September 2022, he scored his first Champions League goal in a 4–1 away win over RB Leipzig.[19]
International career
Youth
From 2017 to 2018, he played for the Ukraine national under-17 football team. From 2018 to 2019, he played for the Ukraine national under-19 football team, appearing in 11 matches and scoring 5 goals. In 2019, he was included in the Ukraine national under-21 football team, playing 9 matches and scoring 1 goal.[5] On 7 September 2021, he scored the winning goal from free-kick against Armenia.[20][21]
Senior
In April 2022, he has been called in Ukraine national football team in the training camp in April-May 2022 in Slovenia for the first time.[22] On 11 May 2022, he made his debut in the friendly game against Borussia Mönchengladbach scoring his first goal at the Borussia-Park in Mönchengladbach, during the Global Tour for Peace.[23]
Personal life
Mudryk is an Orthodox Christian and he frequently carries religious icons to matches.[4] ”In many interviews, he has spoken openly about just how vital faith is to him. He would like to talk to everybody about God but often stops himself to respect others' faith convictions . He has said "All my tattoos have a meaning, but 'Only Jesus' is the biggest and most important" [24]
