Neeraj Kabi is an Indian film and theatre actor known for his works in International films and Hindi cinema, theatre, and television.[1][2] Neeraj began his film acting career in 1997 where he appeared in the National Award winning film "The Last Vision", directed by A.K. Bir and produced by NFDC-India.[3] Neeraj has trained briefly in a host of traditional martial and dance forms to equip himself for his work as an actor in theatre and films.
In 2013, he made his re-entry with Ship of Theseus, playing the lead in one of the three stories. Ship of Theseus won several prestigious International film awards and also the National Film Award for Best Feature Film for that year. Neeraj's performance was widely applauded and fetched him several nominations and awards including the Best Actor award at the International competition section of the 4th Sakhalin International Film Festival in Russia. He then appeared as the lead villain in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015) directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Yashraj Films. Thereafter, he played one of the pivotal roles in Meghna Gulzar's Talvar (2015) which was written and produced by Vishal Bhardwaj. Neeraj was nominated for both these performances at the film awards.
Kabi has also enacted the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the 2014 Television series Samvidhaan: The Making of the Constitution of India created by Rajya Sabha TV, and directed by Shyam Benegal.[3]
Neeraj shot for Gurinder Chadha's 'Viceroy's House' in early 2016. This is an International film with an international ensemble cast. He later shot for Jar Pictures' 'Once Again', a love story where he plays the lead opposite Shifaali Shah. The other two films which he has completed shooting for are Dipesh Jain's 'In the Shadows' with Manoj Bajpai and Nirang Desai's 'Tabeer' in the lead role opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee. Neeraj is currently shooting for "The Hungry", an International feature film with Naseeruddin Shah.
Neeraj Kabi is also the founder and artistic director of Pravah Theatre and Film Laboratory which is engaged in exploring the fact that theatre and cinema are two of the most important tools to understand and feel the human process, change human perspectives and cause human awakening. Pravah aspires to leave behind works in theatre and cinema that will touch, move, inspire and empower.
