State Route 375 (now also officially known as the Extraterrestrial Highway) is a two lane[2] highway in south-central Nevada in the United States. The highway stretches 98 miles from Warm Springs at US 6 to Crystal Springs at State Route 318.The highway is on the eastern edge of the Nellis Air Force Range.
The name Extraterrestrial Highway alludes to the top-secret (but much noted in popular culture) Area 51 government base located nearby. Many UFO observations have been reported by travelers on this road over the years. The town of Rachel is located on the Extraterrestrial Highway, and is home to a UFO research group, a restaurant, and a few shops. Rachel receives tourism all year round thanks to its proximity to Area 51. However, only "an average of about 200 cars drive some portion of the Extraterrestrial Highway every day, making it one of the state’s least traveled routes."[3]
History
The Extraterrestrial Highway was officially dedicated on April 18, 1996.
