Nica is a colloquial term for a native Nicaraguan.[1] The term is used extensively in Nicaraguan Spanish in informal settings, particularly in settings regarding people of Nicaraguan origin. The plural of Nica is Nicas, which can be used to refer to a masculine or feminine group of Nicaraguans. The term is also widely used by Nicaraguans abroad in the United States, Costa Rica, Argentina and other Latin American countries. The term is coined on a less frequent bases by non-Nicaraguans, who use the formal term Nicaragüense when referring to a singular person or Nicaragüenses in plural form.
