On ne change pas (album)

On Ne Change Pas (meaning We Don't Change) is a summary of the past twenty five years of Céline Dion's French career. It's her twenty second French album and thirty third if counting all longplays. On Ne Change Pas was released on October 3 2005.

Album information

This French "Greatest Hits" album features many number one singles such as "Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore," "Je Sais Pas" and "Sous le Vent." Included are rare songs like "Ma Nouvelle France" (from the 2004 movie Nouvelle-France), "Plus Haut Que Moi" (French adaptation of Jennifer Rush's song "Higher Ground") and many early recordings (beginning with Dion's first single "Ce N'Était Qu'un Rêve" from June 1981). On Ne Change Pas also includes three new songs: "Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas," "Tous Les Secrets" (theme from Asterix and the Vikings) and "I Believe in You" (duet with Il Divo). Material on this album is mostly written by Eddy Marnay, Luc Plamondon, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Erick Benzi, and Jacques Veneruso.

Many versions of On Ne Change Pas were released, some of them with a bonus DVD featuring 30 minutes of exclusive images and the video for "Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas."

Céline Dion visited France at that time (after three years of absence) to promote her compilation and appeared in many TV shows. The album wasn't released in Australia and New Zealand.

Céline Dion recorded also an English version of "Tous Les Secrets," called "Let Your Heart Decide" which was featured as the single's B-side.

An accompanying On Ne Change Pas DVD was also released on November 21 2005, including all French music videos and bonus material.

Dion was nominated for the Female Artist of the Year and the Best Song of the Year - "Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas" at the 2006 Félix Awards.

Half a year after this compilation debuted on the charts, Céline Dion and Marc Dupré released their duet single "Tout Près du Bonheur," but the song wasn't included on Dion's album. It was used however to promote Dupré's debut CD Refaire le Monde.

Chart success

On Ne Change Pas reached number one in France (seven weeks at the top), Belgium and Quebec and sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. The album spent a whole year on the French chart and was certified 3x platinum for selling 600,000 copies (108,687 in the first week which was a record for a compilation). On Ne Change Pas was also certified 3x platinum in Canada, and gold in Switzerland and Belgium. It was the best selling compilation and 7th best selling album in France in 2005. It was also the best selling album in Quebec and 4th best selling album in Belgium Wallonie the same year.

The leadoff single "Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas" reached #2 in France and was certified silver. "Tous Les Secrets" peaked at #20 and "I Believe in You" at #30. The latter was also released in the United States as a promotional single, reaching #31 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks.
