Orin, or Orrin, is an anglicised spelling of the Irish given name "Odran", traditionally spelled "Odhran" and more recently spelled "Oran"). In Irish, it is pronounced "O-rawn" or "O-rin".

The name means one of the following in Old Irish:[citation needed]

  • dark-haired, derived from the word otteran, "otter" in Irish, which is generally accepted as the correct meaning
  • little pale green one
  • white, likely Scottish
  • river, probably confused with the Irish given name Aran, which has a similar pronunciation
