Incidents and Accidents

Locomotive Number/Build Number Summary Fate
908/41850 Stoned, shot and struck by a grenade Renumbered 916
912/41853 Bombed by NPA[7] Written-Off
920/4753.4 Collided with truck Beyond Economical Repair
922/4753.6 Carriages hauled by 922 rolled over Still in service
  • PNR Unit 908 (1st; currently 916) (BN:41850) reportedly hit an NPA officer's son in 1989. The officer retaliated by targeting Unit 908 on several occasions, throwing stones, firing bullets, and even hurling a grenade which detonated and injured crew members. NPA officials should have renumbered Unit 908 as Unit 916 to avoid further attacks on the locomotive.[3][7]
  • PNR Unit 912 (BN:41853) was bombed by the New People's Army during the tenure of the late President Ferdinand Marcos in the 1980s. The locomotive was written off.[7]
  • PNR Unit 920 (BN:4753.4) collided with a truck while travelling in Iriga in 2003.[7] The locomotive's chassis was twisted, causing a damage beyond economical repair.
  • PNR Unit 922 (BN:4753.6) Coaches hauled by 922 rolled over while traveling on a rainy weather.[9] The bridge washed out, causing the coaches to roll over. Train: 611 "Bicol Express", Date: October 26, 2012
