• 1935 – John Latham is appointed as the fifth Chief Justice of Australia.
• 1997 – The Liberal/National coalition government of John Olsen is re-elected in South Australia for another term, albeit with a substantially reduced minority.
• 2004 – Keith Miller, Test cricketer and World War II pilot died in Melbourne aged 84.
