- 5 February 1977: The Chama Cha Mapinduzi, the ruling political party of Tanzania, was formed.
- 7 February 2008: Prime Minister Edward Lowassa and two other ministers resigned following the report on corruption within the cabinet.
- 13 February 1858: British explorers Richard Burton and John Hanning Speke were the first Europeans to reach Lake Tanganyika.
- 25 February 1498: The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama reached the East African coast, the first European to do so.
