- 1807 – The first railway passenger service begins in England. The cars are drawn by horses.
- 1908 – The Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis Electric Railroad extends passenger service from its existing Washington-Annapolis route to Baltimore, Maryland.
- 1945 – Virginian Railway takes delivery of its first 2-6-6-6 (class AG) steam locomotives from Lima Locomotive Works.
