- 1780 – The Great Hurricane of 1780 stalled near Barbados, killing over 4,000 people on the island. The storm killed about 22,000 in total throughout the Lesser Antilles, making it the deadliest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded.
- 1960 - A cyclone struck what is now Bangladesh, killing 6,000 people.
- 1997 – Cyclone Lusi became the first named storm of one of the most active South Pacific season, and is one of a few systems in record within the basin to develop in the month of October.
- 2018 – Hurricane Michael (pictured) made landfall on Mexico Beach, Florida as a Category 5 hurricane, becoming the most powerful hurricane to strike the Florida Panhandle on record.
