R. Roshan Baig (born 15 July 1951) is a minister of Karnataka state in India. He is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in Karnataka a state in southern India. He is a member of the Indian National Congress. He is also vice-chairman of the Al-Ameen Educational Society.[2]

Early life

Roshan was born premature and as a child was not a bright student. He failed his 8th standard exams and was not permitted to take the 10th standard ones due to attendance shortage.[3] Ultimately, he passed high school and took an admission to RC College in Bangalore, where he contested his first ever election, for the elective post of General Secretary against Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar.[3]

Political career

After getting a bachelor's degree in commerce,[1][3] he joined a government law college for his LLB and later became a full-time politician due to his burgeoning political career.[3] He won the 1985 state elections for the 8th Assembly[1] with the Janata Party.[3] After division of the Janata party, he moved to the Indian National Congress party. As a civil servant, he claims his attendance to the assembly is 99%. He considers the House as sacred and a privilege and so has never slept in the House.[3]

As a prominent face in Bangalore Central and Bangalore North, he's touted as the face of Muslim community in Karnataka. Although he's an MLA from Shivajinagar, Bangalore which is a Hindu majority constituency with some Muslim population.

Recently he has been honored with the life membership of International Film And Television Club of Asian Academy of Film & Television.

Times of India had published news about forgery case against him, in a property deal. He was later cleared of his charges. [5]
