Robert Leddy is a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. The former interim leader of the Alberta Party, he was elected in Red Deer, Alberta on August 29, 2009.

Political career

Leddy became interim president of the Conservative Party of Canada Edmonton—Mill Woods—Beaumont electoral district association in September 2004. At the October 2004 annual general meeting in Beaumont, Alberta, Leddy was elected vice-president of the CPC Edmonton-Mill Woods-Beaumont EDA. In 2005 he left the Conservative Party of Canada to pursue provincial politics.

Leddy founded the Alberta Alliance Party constituency associations of Edmonton Ellerslie in June 2006 and Edmonton-Mill Woods in October 2006, where he became the official candidate for the riding. He served as president of the Alberta Alliance Party Edmonton Region from 2007 until the merger with the Wildrose Party of Alberta and the Alberta Alliance Party in January 2008.

Leddy served the Wildrose Alliance Party of Alberta as a northern zone director and as elections organizer for the Edmonton region during the 2008 Alberta provincial election.

Leddy ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 2008 Alberta general election in the electoral district of Edmonton-Mill Woods. He finished a distant fourth place out of fifth, taking 2.95% of the popular vote. The election would see Liberal incumbent Weslyn Mather defeated by Progressive Conservative Carl Benito.

On August 29, 2009 Leddy was elected as the interim leader of the Alberta Party, a minor right-wing provincial party, during its transition away from right-wing politics. He replaced long time leader Bruce Stubbs. He was succeeded by the former deputy leader of the Alberta Green Party, Edwin Erickson, who was elected to facilitate the ideological shift of the party and its merger with the Renew Alberta movement. Leddy is the Alberta Party's nominated candidate for Edmonton-Mill Woods in the 2012 Alberta general election.[1]
