Sir Parshurambhau College is one of the most prestigious college in India and third old college in Pune after Deccan College and Fergusson College. Sir Parshrambhau college is widely known as SP College. SP college has successfully cleared two rounds of NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) with A grade in both rounds. It is also among the 10 colleges in the country selected for Digital India programme of the Union Government to enable digital campus by providing wi-fi system.


The Shikshan Prasarak Mandali is a premier society in Maharashtra and runs Primary Schools, High Schools, Colleges, Management Institutes and other Educational Institutes all over the Maharashtra. Sir Parshurambahu College is a leading college in Maharashtra in India. It was established in 14 June 1916 and the name was The New Poona College at that time. Initially the college classes conducted in N.M.V. High school. The Raja Saheb of Jamkhindi state donated a handsome amount of rupees two lakh on September 16, 1928 in memory of his father Sir Parshurambhau Patwardhan. The college was then renamed as Sir Parshurambhau College. The present site of the college (25acre) was leased to Sikhan Prasarak Mandali by Shri Jagannath Maharaj Pandit at the request of Lokmanya Tilak. On 20.06.1926 the college was shifted to the present building. The foundation stone of main building was laid in 1925-26 by the hands of the Sir Leslie Wilson, the Governor of Bombay. Other Buildings on the campus viz., the Library Building, Lady Ramabai Hall, Hostel Buildings, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science Building and the Administrative building etc. were build subsequently. Commerce faculty was started in June 1978. Junior College wing started in 1976. BBA was started in 2008. The college now imparts education in Science, Arts and Commerce from Junior college to the post graduate level. The college runs the post graduate courses in Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Philosophy, Commerce, Political Science and Computer Science.
