The Women's sailboard competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held from 31 July to 7 August, at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.[1]

Competition format

The competition was a fleet racing contest, using point-for-place. There were ten races in the beginning phase. The worst score for each crew was ignored. The top ten crews advanced to the medal race. Scores from the beginning phase were retained and added to the medal race score, but the medal race place scores were doubled.[2]

1 Borges-Mendelblatt withdrew before the event, claiming that she lacked the support of the Portuguese mission and that she was three months pregnant.[14]

Notes

Points are assigned based on the finishing position in each race (1 for first, 2 for second, etc.). The points are totalled from the top results of the races, with lower totals being better. If sailors are disqualified or do not complete the race, 27 points are assigned for that race (as there are 26 boats in this competition). Net points are the total points with the worst race subtracted.

Scoring abbreviations are defined as follows:

  • OCS – On course side of the starting line
  • DSQ – Disqualified
  • DNC – Did not come to the starting area
  • DNF – Did Not Finish
  • DNS – Did Not Start
  • RAF – Retired After Finishing
