Sajil Sreedhar (സജിൽ ശ്രീധർ) is a Malayalam author and Journalist. Born August 10, 1969 in Panachikadu, Kottayam district. More than two decades of experience in Media. He is the editor of Mangalam Weekly and Live in style trimonthly.

He made entry into literary field by writing short stories during his college days. His first story was published in Deepika weekly in 1985. He Published many stories in prominent periodicals like Manorama, Kalakaumdi etc. He is very active in the genres of film reviews, biographies and script writing. His first novel "Karutha Nakshatram" was published in "Malayalam daily" (U.S.A).

Mangalam editorial board member from 1999 on wards. Chief sub editor of 'Kanyaka' fortnightly for a long time. He brought a new notable and unique style in interview dialogue presentation. Sajil Sreedhar's selected interviews published in the form of book as a part of Kerala government's hundred day action programme. His contrition to the genre of biographies are valuable. He is the biographer of eminent personalities such as M.T.Vasudevan Nair, P.S. Sreenivasan, Thilakan, Kochauseph Chittilappally, Vellapally Natesan, K.P. Paul, M.C.Varghese, Issac Kottukappally, Mithtran Nampoothiripad. He published around 20 books in different literary genres. Leading publishers like D.C.books, N.B.S, Mathrubhumi, Chintha, Olive, Saikatham Books etc. published Sajil Sreedhar's books.

He scripted and directed the first historical T.V.series in Malayalam, 'Paliyathachan'. Doordarshan telecasted it in 1993.He did so many documentaries for Doordarshan and Kerala government. Documentaries on Bharath Gopi, Balachandra Menon, Lal, Lohithadas, Rajan P. Dev, Kochin Haneefa etc. are the most notable among them. Honored several times for his literary contributions.A member of the state film award committee in 2013.

Early Life and Family

He was born in Panachikadu,Kottayam district as the son of teacher couples O.K.Sreedharan and C.M.Lakshmidevi. Educated at Baker memorial L.P.school, M.T.Seminary high school, Nattakom govt college, Baselius college and Cochin institute of visual communication. Now residing at Kumaranelloor, Kottayam. His wife Aparna was a high school teacher. Daughter Prarthana is studying at Kumaranelloor Devivilasam school, third standard.

Career

As a student, he started writing an article on Kumaran Asan's works in school magazine and M. T's Randamoozham in college Magazine. At pre-degree his First story 'Atmavinte Nombaram' was published in Deepika weekly. He wrote many stories.

While graduating his novel "black stars" was serialized in 'Malayalam daily' published from U. S. A. His regular column the same daily that analyses new books was well appreciated and continued for years.

Scripted and directed 'Paliyathachan'(the minister of 'Sakthant Thampuran' who ruled Cochin)-T.V series for Trivandrum Doordarshan, and got the best debut director award from the film academy for this. He directed many documentaries. Documentaries on Bharath Gopi, Balachandra menon, Lal, lohitdas, Rajan P. Dev, Kochin Haneefa are the most notable among them.

'Mangalam' editorial board member from 1999 onwards. As a reporter he was noted for his interview dialogue writing with a touch of creativity and unique style. The first interview of K. M. Mathew, Chief editor of Malayala Manorama, has led to huge discussion and debate among the reading fraternity. This was specially mentioned in Dr. Sebastian Paul's "Madhyama vicharam".

He entered into book writing with his biographical work on astrological scholar Brahmasri Mitran Nampoothiripad. Became more active with the publication of "Ente Innalekal", based on the exploding life story of Mr. Vellappally Natesan. He got special accolades on the biographies based on Kochauseph chittilappally, P.S. Sreenivasan and K.P. Paul. He created biographical books based on M. T and Thilakan.

Sajil Sreedher's best interviews were collected in two volumes. Literary workers co-operative society published "Anubhavangalku Mukhamukam"as a part of Kerala Government's hundred day action program. This became reference guides in different universities.

'Anubhavangalku Mukhamukham', – portrays the life story of Veterans in different sectors of life such as E. K. Nayanar, ONV, Sugathakumari, Thilakan, Yesudas, D. Vinayachandran, Alphons Kannanthanam etc.-got the 2015 'Atmayanangalude khazak Award'.

"Pen kazhchakal"lead to very serious debate among the readers, told us the story of common women with inexplicable experiences and their resilience towards it. His work 'Athikayan' based on the life of "popular Automobiles" founder K.P. Paul has created new explanation to history. This book introduced a k. p. paul who was involved in communist organizing activities in 1939, that was even four years before the official communist party came into existence in Kerala. "Athikayan"[1] shows us a K. P. Paul who held a rally on the may day of 1936 by raising red flag for the first time in the history of Kerala.

'Sakhavinte ithihasam"-the work based on Ex-minister P. S. Sreenivasan, the ever lasting role model of value oriented political activities, – got the first M. K. Sanu award. This book brought in so many vital information like how the state of Kerala got the epithet "God's Own Country".

Sajil wrote the novel 'Vasavadatta', based on the poem 'Karuna' written by Kumaranasan. Vasavadutta interprets the evolution of a person from extra materialistic desires to high spiritual insights-is considered as one of his best work.

Paliyath Achan printed version published in 2015, by Saikatham Books after 22 long years of its T.V telecast. It was the first time in Kerala that a television series script came in the form of a book.

'Kathayude akamporul', a series of articles that theoretically analyse the short stories came in Mangalam daily in 2002. These articles and some other articles published in the last 12 years together came as a book with the same name in 2016. He worked as a columnist for a very long period. He handled 'Jeevitha Nizhalpadukal '-articles about persons who kept away from the lime light of fame-in 'Kanyaka' fortnightly, entertainment business series in 'Dhanam' business magazine and automotive features in 'Overtake' magazine.

He edited M. T's eightieth birth anniversary book-"M. T-Ezhuthinte Atmavu", Vellappally's seventieth birth anniversary book-"Padamudra"and Mangalam founder M. C. Varghese's memoir -"Ormachepu".
