Science and Christian Belief is an academic journal published twice yearly[1] by Christians in Science and the Victoria Institute.[2] The journal focuses on the traffic of ideas between science and religion, with particular reference to Christianity.[3] It publishes articles, reviews, and letters relating to the environment, ethics, biology, genetic engineering, physics, cosmology, computer technology, sociology, theology, anthropology, mathematics, and the history and philosophy of science.[3]
Science and Christian Belief started in 1989, with Oliver Barclay and A. Brian Robins as co-editors.[4] The journal is indexed in New Testament Abstracts, Religion Index One: Periodicals, and Religious & Theological Abstracts, and is distributed by EBSCO Publishing as part of Academic Search and other collections.[5] The journal is free to members of Christians in Science.[6]
The Victoria Institute or Philosophical Society of Great Britain published the Journal of the Transactions of The Victoria Institute, which began in 1866; it became Faith and Thought in 1958 and then merged with the (informal) CIS Bulletin to become Science and Christian Belief in 1989.[7][8] In 1990 J.W. Haas stated that "the institute has had little recent influence on the British scene other than through its journal Faith and Thought".[9]
Science and Christian Belief's current editors are Denis R. Alexander, the Director of the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion,[10] and Rodney D. Holder.
