They try to save Savannah from disappearing.

Season 2 focuses on Harper as she tries to uncover the secrets behind her connections to the Tremont hotel after discovering a photo of her great-grandmother Daisy which leads her to believe that the answers lie in the 1930s. Despite Bennett's confession, Harper points out that the cause of Savannah's disappearance has not been explained. Griffin and Harper escape the police car after tricking a police officer. After escaping, they confront Jess in one of the bunkhouses, where Jess reveals about the dare she gave Savannah on the night of the camp dance. Griffin and Harper then investigate the Tremont's basement, deducing that Savannah could have possibly found the portal. When they enter the portal, they find themselves in the year 1960, prior to the camp's opening. They enter the hotel and find Savannah who was under the impression that she was being pranked. In the present, strange events begin to occur at hotel, which stop after Sarah and the twins come across a police officer. Griffin and Harper try to open the hatch to no avail, leaving them with no choice but to leave Savannah behind. The police officers find a boot print that is similar to Harper's foot size, leading to a detection dog finding the hatch. Before the group could reach it, however, Griffin and Harper return to the present and inform Jess. As Griffin researches on the storm, he eavesdrops on his parents and discovers that the family was returning to Chicago. Harper tries to enter the school early the next morning, but is confronted by Mrs. Douglas. After inquiring about the storm, Mrs. Douglas lets her look through the school's inventory of microfilms. Harper discovers that Savannah was present at the grand reopening of The Tremont in 1962, and tries to encourage Griffin to go back to 1960 with her, but he explains that he cannot do so as he is returning to Chicago. At Savannah's treehouse, Bennett describes the events leading up to Savannah's disappearance to Sarah, revealing that he spent some time with Savannah but left her behind when they heard a noise, leaving him filled with guilt and regret for being unable to save Savannah. In the secret room, Griffin and Harper follow messages left behind a mysterious entity, whom they believe to be Savannah. Following the messages, Griffin and Harper discover a way to change the year the portal brings them to. They visit the year 1962, following the reopening of the Tremont. Griffin and Harper try to be allowed inside, but Harper is denied due to her race. As Griffin and Harper talk, Savannah finds them and approaches them. She describes her life in the two years after she last saw Griffin and Harper. The duo reveal their true identities and try to persuade Savannah to return with them, but she refuses as she finally found a loving family after spending years as an orphan. However, she comes up with an idea to leave a message for present Bennett through a paint can. Bennett becomes emotional after finding the message and receiving closure about Savannah. After previously eavesdropping on Bennett's phone call, Sarah changes her mind and decides for the family to remain in Sulphur Springs. After thinking about her father, Harper uses the portal to travel to 2011 to meet him before his death. As Zoey and Wyatt walk through the hotel, one of the rocking chairs begins to move on its own.

In 2011, Harper finds her father driving his yellow convertible and flags him down. After getting in, the pair chat for a while when a white truck ahead begins to swerve. Harper alerts her father, who is able to narrowly miss the collision, leading her to believe that she had saved him. Zoey finds Wyatt scrutinizing the rocking chair and joins him. Griffin finds Harper, and she begins to detail her experience describing how she had saved her father from dying. However, when they return to the present, Harper is unable to find her father anywhere. Upon returning home, Harper weeps as she studies her paintings — many of which are of ponds and lily pads — and realizes that her father's true cause of death was due to a canoe accident that also involved Harper, and that she does not remember the whole accident partially due to trauma and because her perceived version of events of a car accident was deemed more suitable for her mental health. Griffin finds Zoey and Wyatt looking at the rocking chair, which only begins to rock after the twins leave the room. Griffin follows footsteps that begin to appear on the ground, leading him to the basement. There, Griffin finds Harper sulking, with Harper admitting that what Griffin said about being unable to save her father is true. Suddenly, Savannah bursts into the basement to the surprise of Griffin and Harper. She explains that she had returned because she found a picture of a girl that looks identical to Harper that was taken in 1930 while cleaning out a storage room and suggested that some investigation needed to be done as Harper did not visit 1930. As the trio visit 1930, they enter the Tremont prior to it being a hotel. They explore inside the house as well as the upstairs, but quickly rush back to the entrance after finding an old man upstairs. However, as Harper opens the door, she comes face-to-face with the girl in the picture. Guest star: Diandra Lyle as Jess

Harper and Griffin help prepare for the hotel's grand opening. They encounter the same mysterious woman who previously spooked the twins. She instructs them to "not to go forward", before being taken away by her care assistant. Savannah reiterates her concerns to her mother about Sam. Harper and Griffin visit the woman at her nursing home. As they turn to leave, the woman says that she is glad to see them again, addressing them as "Harry and Hermione" which leads them to theorize that the woman is an elderly Savannah. The grand opening of the Tremont proceeds as planned. The twins spot Savannah among guests and ask Topher about it. As Harper and Griffin search for Savannah, Harper experiences the strange visions, this time hearing Griffin calling out for help in a fire. They find Savannah who explains of Sam's disappearance. However, Griffin urges her to return to her time, especially as the crystal's power is weakening due to the crack formed. As Jess talks to Harper, Sarah notices that water is beginning to leak from upstairs. Harper joins Savannah in reaching the shelter, noting Griffin's absence upstairs. Meanwhile, the others try to stop the water leakage. Jess tries to open the door to room 205 but she is stopped by a viscous black substance that begins to seep out. In the basement, Bennett notices the shattered mirror as well as the mask Savannah dropped, discovering the shelter in the process. As Savannah weeps, Bennett enters the shelter and confronts Harper. Guest stars: Eugene Byrd as Sam, Johari Washington as Topher

Production

Originally titled Sulphur Springs, the project was developed as a pilot for Disney Channel; it was later pitched to Disney+, where it received a cast-contingent series order.[26] The series entered pre-production, but the casting process was unsuccessful and Disney+ passed on the series.[26] By May 2019, development for the series had moved from the streaming service back to Disney Channel, and casting continued for the series, now being produced as a pilot; two roles had been filled by this point.[26] Originally developed as an hour-long series, the program was later shortened to a half-hour format.[27] In October 2019, the series was officially ordered by the network for an eleven-episode season.[27]

Production was scheduled to begin in New Orleans in 2020.[27] Filming commenced in Louisiana towards the end of 2019 and paused on February 23, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[28] Filming for the season was completed between October 5 and November 6, 2020.[28] On April 23, 2021, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on January 14, 2022.[29][30][31] On February 7, 2022, the series was renewed for a third season.[2]

Broadcast

In the United States, the series premiered with three episodes combined into a one-hour special, airing on Disney Channel on January 15, 2021.[32] Episodes continued to air weekly on the network, each Friday until March 12, 2021.[32]

In a first for a Disney Channel series, the program received a "high-profile" release schedule on Disney+.[32] The first five episodes were made available on the streaming service on February 26, 2021.[32] Episodes continued to be added each Friday until April 9, 2021.[32] Nellie Andreeva of Deadline speculated that a successful run on Disney+ could lead to the series being moved to the streaming service as an original series for a potential second season.[32]
