Sinai Synagogue, Leeds is a Reform Jewish community on Roman Avenue in Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1944[1] and is affiliated to the Movement for Reform Judaism.[2] Its current rabbi is Ian Morris.[3][4]

The community has a burial ground in current use at Harehills Cemetery, Leeds, which is managed by Leeds City Council.[5]

History

The community was founded in January 1944. It held services at Friends' Meeting House in Street Lane and, later, in Newton Park Union Church Schoolroom on Chapeltown Town Road. From about 1951 to 1960 it held its services in the defunct Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue building at 21 Leopold Street, Leeds 7. Its current synagogue building, on Roman Road in Roundhay, dates from 1960[1] and was designed by Halpern & Associates of London. It was extended in 1985.
