History

The band was formed in Glasgow in 1983 by Seori Burnette (vocals, guitar, harmonica),

The first line up involved Seori Burnett, Robert Renfrew, Malcolm Macdonald and Fraser

the band moved on to a different line up and expanded line up for the first album Seori Burnett Vocals Guitar harp Tzen Vermillion (guitar), Sandy Brown (piano, accordion), Robert Renfrew (bass guitar), and Rhod "Lefty" Burnette (drums).[1][2] Their debut release was the Southern Cross mini-LP in March 1985, the title track also released as a twelve-inch single.[2]

The band was managed by Myles Cooney

Vermillion and Rhod Burnette left to be replaced by Neil Scott (guitar) and Iain Shedden (drums, formerly of punk rock band Jolt and The Saints), the band now moving to the Making Waves label.[2] Another release of "Southern Cross" followed in August 1986, the song also appearing on their second album, Gracelands and the Natural Wood, released in July 1987.[2] When Making Waves went into receivership, the band split up, although Seori Burnette, Scott and Shedden formed Summerhill and signed to Polydor Records.[1] Shedden later returned to The Saints and drummed for Giant Sand.[3]

A version of the snakes was put together in 2017 as one of gig at the Griffen Bar Glasgow supporting Summerhill and had good reception.
