Takbirut Tashreeq is the recitation of Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Laa Ilaaha Illallaahu Wallaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar Wa Lillaahil Hamd

Time

Takbirut Tashreeq stretches over five days and commences from Fajr of 9th Zul Hijjah till after Asr of 13th Zul Hijjah

Origin

Ibraheem Alayhis Salaam was ordered by Allaah to sacrifice his son Ismaeel Alayhis Salaam.

When Ibraheem Alayhis Salaam began moving the knife on his beloved son Ismaeel Alayhis Salaam, the angels were sent with a ram (kabsh?) from Jannah. The angels exclaimed: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest).

Ibraheem Alayhis Salaam heard the voice of the angels and said: La Ilaha Illallahu Wallahu Akbar (There is none worthy of worship besides Allah and Allah is the Greatest).

Ismaeel Alayhis Salaam heard this conversation and realized that Allah had relieved him from this great trial and so he said, Allahu Akbar Wa Lillahil Hamd (Allah is the Greatest and to Allah belongs all praise) [Shaami]

Compulsory recitation

It is Compulsory (Wajib) for every adult (Baaligh) Muslim to recite Takbirut Tashreeq audibly after every Fard Salaah from Fajr 9th Zul Hijjah till after Asr of 13th Zul Hijjah. Women will recite it softly. Takbirut Tashreeq will be recited for a total of 23 Fardh Salaah as well as for the Eidul Adha Salaah. Takbirut Tashreeq will be read after every Fard Salaah whether the Salaah was performed individually or in congregation.

Limit

Takbirut Tashreeq should be recited once after every Fardh Salaah from Fajr 9th Zul Hijjah to Asr 13th Zul Hijjah

Manner

  • Women will read Takbirut Tashreeq softly. Men will read it loudly
  • Takbirut Tashreeq will be read after prayer in congregation as well as individual prayer (Munfarid)
  • Takbirut Tashreeq must be read immediately after the Fardh Salaah. It cannot be made up later and one should repent to Allaah for forgetting a Wajib action
  • Should the Imam of the Salat omit Takbirut Tashreeq, the follower/s (Muqtadi/s) will immediately commence its recitation
