Possible Copyvio

[edit]

I found this page: http://www.mic.gov.to/appointments/new-ministers-/2085-hon-uliti-uata-is-the-new-health-minister ...on the Tonga Government Portal. It's a profile of 'Uliti Uata, posted January 27, 2011. Some of the text is almost verbatim what is on his page here. Based on the history of the Wikipedia page, and the date of the post on the Government Portal, it seems that Wikipedia is the original, and we do not have to worry about Copyvio.

An example:

  • Wikipedia: "Uata was re-elected for an eight term in the 2010 election, and nominated to the post of minister of health on 25 January 2011[5]."
  • Tonga Government Portal: "Uata was re-elected for an eight term in the 2010 election, and before being nominated to the post of minister of health on 25 January 2011."

...the Tonga Government Portal sentence seems awkward, no? Like they took the Wiki sentence and inserted "before being", but didn't completely correct the grammar of the sentence. Also "re-elected for an eight term" is incorrect, it should be "eighth term", which also suggests to me that Wikipedia is the original, and they have copied the grammar mistake along with the rest of the text.

It's not the first time the Tongan government websites plagiarise Wikipedia... Sometimes they even copy the internal links within the text, leaving the links back to Wikipedia articles. Aridd (talk) 16:28, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
