Seat totals[edit]

We have two reliable sources here providing contradicting information on results.

The Times gives Congress 44 seats and the Nationalist Party 9. It notes a further 41 seats are appointed, 9 are reserved for Europeans, 11 for special interests and 31 for Muslims, and states the total number of seats as 146, leaving only one seat unaccounted for.

The Indian Express states that the People's (Leading Separationist) Party won 3 seats.

Which source is right here? Does the Express give totals for the entire Parliament anywhere? Number 5 7 20:18, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Government of India Act 1935 proposed a new composition for the legislatures of an all-India federeation which would include members from provinces and princely states. But the princely states were reluctant and the federation never came into being. The 1945 elections continued under the 1919 pattern. --Salilb (talk) 19:40, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
