Odd wording?[edit]

The crash site is a private meadow of Elbow Mountain within Savage River State Forest If its in a state forest, how is it private? Did they mean secluded, not private? Private implies private property. --RThompson82 (talk) 00:17, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are multitudes of private property tracts within state forests, particularly in the Appalachians where private residence tracts were retained when governments acquired nearby wilderness (many are along the Blue Ridge Parkway). Most maps of the Savage River state lands (e.g., at Google) clearly show the small private property areas such as the one at the crash coordinates, which is an area 'contained' by the state forest property. So by definition 1, "within" is accurately applied in the article. The state has even authorized a crash memorial to be erected on the state land's public trail adjacent to the private crash site which has a memorial monument within the private wire fence for the 1 crewman who didn't eject. If the former is ever built this article will be a nice reference for those trailhikers who come onto it and want mobile details (e.g., that the crash site w/ memorial is on private land). Other memorials throughout the area about this event include a large one in Pennsylvania for the NCO killed (also private land, but open to the public with a nice parking area after an Eagle Scout project), and the memorials should be identified in the article (a smaller-scale locater map is needed to display them). On the other hand, your edit of the article also on 28 May stating the Tomlinson Inn is "in Grantsville" --that's way off since the Inn is 3 miles East of Grantsville. The archive also shows a user has repeatedly made a similar false claim about location--his being that the crash was in Cumberland despite it being several mountain ranges away and in a different county. Infobox image[edit]

I recently saw a YouTube video on this incident that featured the same photo that is used in the infobox here, falsely claiming that the photo depicted the Savage Mountain incident. This leads me to believe that using an unrelated but strikingly similar incident (especially when the incidents occurred only 3 days apart) as the infobox image is a bit misleading and can and has led to misunderstandings, even with the caption in place to clarify. I propose that the the current infobox image either be moved to the body of the article or removed entirely, and the infobox image be changed to an image of a B-52D, perhaps File:Boeing B-52D-80-BO (SN 56-0620).jpg.
