Why was this race over 72 and not 70 laps?

I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. My best guess is that it was done to take the race distance over the 300 km "minimum distance" which, according to the second paragraph of List of Formula One Grands Prix, had been in force since 1950, but that wouldn't explain why it changed back to 70 laps for subsequent races.
