Name[edit]

Could probably do with a better name but I can't think of anything which would be more appropriate. Niall123 16:10, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about just simply "The Saipan Incident"?

"The Saipan incident" sounds a bit cheesy lol, I think it's fine the way it is, unless anyone agrees with "2002 Saipan incident".. seven+one 01:25, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"2002 Ireland World Cup Controversy" would be a proper article title, with "also known as the Saipan incident" in the text. In any case, having only Roy Keane in the title is misleading. 83.117.56.191 11:19, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Illogical Deduction.[edit]

I do not agree with the logic of the following passage;

"Keane praised the new professional set-up of the Irish soccer team under Kerr but despite the apparent new levels of preparation the team performed much more badly under this regime that it had under McCarthy which undermines much of Keane's stated position after Saipan. Better preparation should have brought more success according to the Keane theory. Instead it brought abject failure suggesting that the preparation under McCarthy was not as slipshod as Keane and his backers suggested."

I feel it is illogical to propose that Roy Keane was wrong to suggest better preparation was necessary, based on the fact that from that point on, the Irish national team did not improve on their performances. By the same logic, Roy Keane would also be wrong, had he suggested that the team needed to score more goals, if the team went on to lose games on scorelines such as 7-8.

I do not believe it is correct to imply that better preparation brought abject failure, as the above passage does.

For your consideration.

==Consequences=[edit]

The consequences wee very broad. The entire Irish population became engaged in a debate about the conflict in Irish society between authority and reason. This section is very much sterilized. McCarthy was representative of the part of Irish society that is settles for comfort. Bear in mind that McCarthy changed substantially as a result of the incident and the subsequent sacking as manager. McCarthy realised that the real problem was the FAI, and subsequently never let others decide his predicament. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.210.150.157 (talk) 19:03, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keane injuries[edit]

Ther's a bit that suggests that Roy Keane faked injuruies in order to avoid ROI games, unless this is sourced sharpish, I will get rid of it Fry2000
