Archive period change

Auto-archive period changed from 180 hrs / 7.5 days (??) to 90 days.

Rapid archiving stifles discussion. This talk page does not get enough activity to be be archived so aggressively, seems like overreaction by Adamdaley, edit 01:28, January 16, 2012‎ when first setting up archiving. -- DMahalko (talk) 01:46, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

I've converted the monthly archives to a numbered archive. Graham87 14:04, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

What's about Turkey?

Analysts noted that the significant data traffic growth in Turkey has made the evolution from 3G to 4G a necessity http://www.aa.com.tr/en/science-and-technology/491551--turkey-4g-license-tender-to-be-held-on-may-26

Need for speed: 4G mobile network technology offers competitive advantages As Turkey’s young, technologically engaged population increases its internet usage on a variety of platforms, the mobile internet market is set for substantial growth in 2013. Having traditionally lagged behind other nations in 3G development, Turkey is now in an advantageous position to roll out 4G and 4G long-term evolution (LTE) networks, offering customers the fastest mobile internet speeds in the world, and supporting continued growth in the mobile market. http://www.oxfordbusinessgroup.com/analysis/need-speed-4g-mobile-network-technology-offers-competitive-advantages

1 gigabit per.. what? per user / channel / frequency / cell?

When talking about speed, 1 gigabit is waved around repeatedly but in terms of what this actually means, that does not seem to be clearly defined.

  • Is this 1 gigabit per client connection, such that the cell/tower can sustain multiple 1 gigabit connections simultaneously? If so then it seems the cell/tower is itself capable of 10 gigabit bandwidth for 10 users, and 100 gigabit bandwidth for 100 users? (This sounds unlikely.)
  • Or is this up to 1 gigabit per cell/tower, and all connecting users share this bandwidth, such that as more clients join, the 1 gigabit capacity is subdivided amongst them? Then this means the cell/tower is limited to a maximum of 1 gigabit capacity, total.
  • Or is the 1 gigabit definition somewhere in between these two extremes?

I realize 4G is thrown around as a branding and marketing term, so just what exactly it technically means in relation to "1 gigabit" may be intentionally vague. -- DMahalko (talk) 14:48, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Infobox

I'm sure that there has been enough debate throughout the English wikipedia about the definition of 4G and wether LTE (non-A) can be considered 4G. My opinion is that it was pure marketing to label LTE as 4G. However, i don't want anything to do with that discussion. My question is about an infobox. The Dutch wikipedia has an infobox that i really like: link You don't need to understand Dutch to understand the infobox. The question is: why is it a collapsed bottom box in the English WP? That muffles away the links to the point where most people miss them. I'd consider the infobox an image that's worth showing on the side in this article, because it illustrates the evolution of wireless standards. PizzaMan (♨♨) 18:37, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
