Creation, same as Tripartite agreement?

[edit]

In see also section, there's the Tripartite Free Trade Area (now with links to this page); are these the same thing/development of the one into the other? I'm not totally certain of the relation. Maybe this is even a merge? -- B.S. Lawrence (talk) 03:48, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is not the same and thus shouldn't be merged. The TFTA is only agreed between COMESA, EAC and SADC with its own agreement and most important, both have their own provisions for the members that signed and ratified. Even if the AfCFTA will come into force, the TFTA will sustain first of all. Only when all members of the TFTA joined the AfCFTA, the summit may think of terminating the TFTA, but not necessarily. They could even exist side by side forever. As far as i picked it up in Kigali last week, there is no plan yet of officially merging the one area into the other. Same actually applies for the several Regional Economic Communities. Benjasadler (talk) 11:26, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also I am preparing something now to expand the article. I will add a little on the history and on the Institutions that will be established. As soon as the Treaty will be published I can add a lot more information. Benjasadler (talk) 12:19, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

African Continental Free Trade Agreement

[edit]

Not sure what information should rather be in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement article and what should be in this one. Please help to clarify. Benjasadler (talk) 12:47, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have been working on maintaining these pages through November-December 2018. The African Continental Free Trade Agreement should contain information about the circumstances and controversies of the _event_ of the agreement's signing, while the African Continental Free Trade Area article can focus on the free trade economic area that will go into effect _if_ the agreement is ratified. The free trade area itself is just a proposal until then. We can expect that the African Continental Free Trade Agreement article has more to say at the current time. If the agreement is ratified and the free trade area comes into existence, then you can expect over time the free trade area article will become more substantial over time. I don't think that there's really sufficient content to warrent a split, as there is a lot of duplication on the two pages. At some point in the future perhaps there will be a need for a split, but not now. TDL (talk) 01:29, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I also think that there should be only one article. Ydecreux (talk) 13:34, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
