Moving page name: "Al-Ahli Anglican Hospital Massacre".
[edit]I think "Al-Ahli Anglican Hospital Massacre" would be more accurate title. Ras al Ghoul (talk) 20:03, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- This is the incorrect page for that, see Al-Ahli Arab Hospital explosion greyzxq talk 20:22, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
failed rocket launch
[edit]Documentation has been released proving the explosion was caused by a failed rocket launch. The launch was carried out by the Al-Quds Brigades of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Pacifico (talk) 21:14, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- Providing a source for a claim like this would make a lot more sense than just claiming it. Soggyburrito2 (talk) 02:03, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
Info re-added
[edit]also known as Baptist Hospital (المستشفى المعمداني) source, same as [1] and [2]. 2A02:908:4E3:9520:2DD6:5A91:8C14:31D0 (talk) 23:14, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- The archbishops both globally and in Jerusalem say it's Anglican. But that Arabic name - Arabic: المستشفى المعمداني - does appear in a lot of Arabic language news reports about Al-Ahli Arab Hospital explosion. I thought possibly there's some ambiguity in the translation? Google translate thinks ar: المعمداني means Baptist but that's a completely different sect to Anglican … there's no article ar: المعمداني in Arabic wiki but ar: معمداني does get the Baptist Church. There could have been an error in a news report that got copied? Is there any record of it being called that before 2023? Irtapil (talk) 07:38, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Makeandtoss: do you know what's going on with this other name? Irtapil (talk) 07:44, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- actually, it looks like it's already been solved, it was a Baptist hospital been the 50s and the 80s, and some might still know it by its old name. Irtapil (talk) 08:03, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Makeandtoss: do you know what's going on with this other name? Irtapil (talk) 07:44, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Same source
[edit]The source with the title "Anglican hospital among facilities struggling to respond to growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza" was mentioned twice separately in which they should be merged. 2A02:908:4E3:9520:2DD6:5A91:8C14:31D0 (talk) 23:22, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- The duplicated reference has been fixed. Thanks. David O. Johnson (talk) 23:35, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital
[edit]It is widely known as Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital. 46.31.112.221 (talk) 07:39, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- It is not Baptist, it's Anglican, you might be mixed up with a different hospital? Or that might be a bit lost in translation? Irtapil (talk) 06:59, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
October 14 explosion
[edit]There seems to be little to no coverage of the incident that took place on Oct 14th at the cancer treatment center. The article suggested Israeli rockets impacted the facility, but the source was the Anglican News, which while questionable as a primary source in its own right, gives no evidence for why it is able to ascribe blame to Israel for the rocket impact. Given the rapidly changing ground situation and the fact that the second explosion is likely to overshadow the incident; i am not sure there will ever be an investigation into this relatively small event, but until such a time comes as there is evidence showing that the rocket was fired by either side, I think it is safer to use neutral language to avoid incorrectly ascribing blame to one party or the other. Mrathel (talk) 12:31, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- The Israeli Defense Forces showed evidence that the explosion was caused by a failed rocket launch by Palestinian Islamic Jihad targeting the Israeli city of Haifa. An Islamic Jihad spokesman denied responsibility. There is no source? GENAMH (talk) 13:39, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- I mean on the Oct. 14 incident; not the supposed rocket/bomb explosion taking place days later. The church people did say 4 people were injured in the previous incident, but they were speculating as to who fired the rocket. It is briefly mentioned in the NPR article below, but not enough to say with any certainty that it was caused by one side or the other.

- @GENAMH: Wrong explosion that was days later in the carpark. The damage to cancer centre upstairs on Saturday 14 October was a separate incident. @Mrathel: There is a short paragraph about the earlier incident in the Background section of the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital explosion page. There is very little information available, the IDF have refused to comment on it (according to the BBC a few days ago). Irtapil (talk) 07:11, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Bad source
[edit]Al Jazeera shouldn’t be used as a source going forward. Its reporting on this was very inaccurate and effectively Hamas propaganda. 2601:100:827F:6F0:3D73:BA3C:DBB6:C94E (talk) 13:29, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- Cool story. nableezy - 13:43, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- Its trustworthiness needs to be reevaluated because it propagated many conspiracies and phony “evidences”. I'm not sure if it is generally considered to be a dubious source, but it was far and away the last to correct the false allegation that Israel bombed the hospital. Exx8 (talk) 09:10, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- I am not sure this is the place for this discussion, but in any case, there is always a need to question the validity of every source’s motivation during international conflicts. Qatar’s relationship to Al Jazeera is not a hidden secret, but they are uniquely able to provide info on the Arab world that might be inaccessible to Western publications. The bias and motivation for some of their reporting might require it to be framed in a broader context using additional sources, but that doesn’t mean it can be dismissed outright. Mrathel (talk) 10:16, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, they are one of the few outlets that are on the ground. Iskandar323 (talk) 13:39, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

Title
[edit]Any idea what type of error is causing the ahli to be in small letter in the title? Makeandtoss (talk) 21:08, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
Translation
[edit]In Arabic the name means the "Civil Arab Hospital", despite the faulty translation from the American church friends website. Makeandtoss (talk) 21:12, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- Can you work out what's going on with the name "Al Ahli Baptist Hospital" someone mentioned above? Irtapil (talk) 07:42, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

Please change "This explosion led to the deaths of 200–500 Palestinians and the injury of more than 600 others, according to preliminary tolls by the Palestinian Ministry of Health." to "According to preliminary tolls by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, this explosion led to the deaths of 200-500 Palestinians and the injury of more than 600 others." in order to better reflect the biases of involved sources and insure greater impartiality, as well as making phrasing more similar to wording in paragraph three of <ref>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ahli_Arab_Hospital_explosion<ref> . If required, add <ref>https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-gaza-hamas-war-biden-rafah-e062825a375d9eb62e95509cab95b80c<ref> as source for Hamas-Gaza Health Ministry connection. Please update the "2023 Israel–Hamas war" section to include events from November and December. Further history is already included in the Wikipedia article "Attacks on health facilities during the 2023 Israel–Hamas war." Please see below or suggested text taken from Wikipedia:
"On 18 December, the al-Ahli Arab Hospital was attacked by Israeli soldiers, with displaced people forced out and two doctors arrested (see "Israeli forces attack al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City: Medical sources". Al Jazeera. Retrieved 19 December 2023). The following day, the al-Ahli Hospital director stated Israeli troops arrested doctors, patients, and medical staff, partially destroyed the building's grounds, leaving the hospital unable to receive patients. Four people from the 18 December attacks on the hospital died (see "Gaza Hospital Out Of Action After Israeli Army Assault: Director". Barron's. Agence France Presse. Retrieved 20 December 2023)."
