Do not use this page to promote the business[edit]

This just reads like an advertisement for the company. 188.220.18.122 (talk) 23:12, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. AmericasMart is a very interesting enterprise and I'm glad we have an article about it but there is no need for show dates or instructions on how to register or how and when to attend or exhibit. Please keep the article to basic facts about the business. Remember this is an encyclopedia, not a place to publish press releases. Jojalozzo 17:23, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Poorly supported claims to be the "largest" ... "only"[edit]

Our lead currently says, "AmericasMart Atlanta is located in Atlanta, Georgia and is the world's largest (seven million square feet) permanent trade center for wholesale trade and the only permanent international trade center in the United States." and the only suport for it is a piece by a business journalist who does not offer any sources to back it up and is probably relying on company press releases. I suggest we remove the claims for "world's largest (seven million square feet) permanent trade center for wholesale trade and the only permanent international trade center in the United States" until we get independent confirmation. Perhaps say world's "AmericasMart Atlanta is located in Atlanta, Georgia and is the one of the world's largest (seven million square feet) permanent wholesale trade center." Where does WP:V say we discount a reliable source if the journalist is a business journalist (a claim for which you did not provide a source). Where does WP:V say we discount a reliable source if the source itself does not offer any sources to back up its claim. Where is the reliable source by which you claim that the source I posted[1] "probably relying on company press releases." In any event, This 1998 reference says "Some 1,900 permanent and temporary vendors have goods at the Atlanta mart, one of the largest in the world." This one says "The two-acre Greyhound site backs up to the existing 6.2 million-square-foot AmericasMart complex, which according to Portman is the world's largest retailers trade mart.". Instead of letting the article sit since 23 July 2012‎ with the lead saying "world's largest[citation needed]" why not just do some research and fix the issue? We're not here to disparage AmericasMart or any other COIs by using Wikipedia to point out their puffery claims. Be bold and fix the problem. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 23:44, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I like your 1998 ref. I'll go with that. The statement by Portman could be used as a quote but, since he's the developer, would not be considered reliable as support for the claim. Jojalozzo 00:01, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
