links
[edit]I have removed a load of links which were dictionary items. This is not a dictionary but an Encyclopedia.Petebutt (talk) 13:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Have to disagree on this. When I began editing and starting articles, I put in few links, but over a year ot two got continuously nudged into increasing the number of them by more experienced editors. This article reflects that learning process. The links are not to a dictionary; they are aviation objects/components which may or may not be familiar to a reader (aileron, say ) and which have been judged by the aviation project group to be worth a WP article. If they were dictionary entries they would not be in WP for, as you say, WP is not a dictionary. If you think that they should be removed (the aileron article, for example) you can always argue for this on the project page and see if there is agreement.
- Given that the articles exist, it seems to me quite wrong to force readers to find them for themselves, when wikilinking by the author is easily done and unobtrusive in the text. Some of these articles have titles which put them at best several clicks away (eg not flaps but flaps (aircraft), and there are worse). As authors, we are probably familiar with the more common ones but those readers wanting clarification will necessarily not be. I've therefore reinstated the links.
- Thanks for all the ratings you have been doing - I seemed to have a serious backlog!TSRL (talk) 20:39, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
