The English versions of this song are well known and widely spread. The notable thing about the version collected in Cornwall is that it has an entirely different tune (but that's not given here, is it possible to display staff notation??) The Cornish words at least as given here are in C20 Unified Cornish (c1930 --). Many folk songs were translated by revivalists in the 1960's and later. The translator is not credited here although its immediate source appears to be _Hengan_ Ed. Merv Davey, Dyllansow Truran, Redruth, Cornwall, 1983. This book contains many similar translations, some acknowledged, but in this case not. Merv is an expert on Cornish trad. music and dance, I believe he has some Cornish language, but I have never seen him credited as a translator of songs. Barring-Gould would have recorded English words (Cornish was defunct as a spoken language at least 100 years before), why are they not given here? The mistaken impression is given that the Cornish words are original and primary, whereas they are derived from the English version.
