Merging discussion

[edit]

The part about GLaDOS killing every employee is wrong. At the end of the game, when you have to kill her, she tells you the morals piece ball thing that was attached to her was installed after she flooding the facility with neurotoxin. Could somebody change that? I'm not sure how to go about editing this.

Actually, I don't believe this page (the Ap Sci, Inc.) one needs to exist. It is presently only based on in-universe information, and there's not much that is known about it otherwise. My suggestion:

  • First, the web site access details are not needed. This is game guide type material. We can explain information about Ap Sci based on using that web site access, but how to get there is beyond the scope of WP.
  • At the present time, it makes sense to include, as a subsection to the plot, a section about Ap Sci, and how it relates to other parts of the HL universe (including the Boralis, etc.) Unlike the rest of the plot section, this section should be wrapped with spoiler tags since it gives away information about a completely different game (Ep2).
  • Should Ep3 come out and a lot more can be learned about Ap Sci it may warrant its own article. However, do note that it would need more out-of-universe references to support it; the current article on Black Mesa is pretty poor in any outside detail though given how it extends across many games, it does need a separate one though not as large.

I completely agree. Put it in the Portal page as a section, but we WILL learn more about ApSci in the future. At that point it WILL need it's own page. Sluggy42 17:11, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would support a merge of this article into Portal article. --Voidvector 13:03, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I get the impression that the events of portal take play post cascade pre-combine as they're nowhere to be seen but seem to use very similar technology in Half Life 2 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.242.208.233 (talk) 15:28, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • This makes a lot more sense to me, combine the aperturescience.com notes thing with the time lines of Half-Life, and its sequel's time-lines along with other hints, like the recent nerve-gas and outside changing with 'them's' and it makes a lot more sense for the events GLaDOS hints at as being the cascade and / or invasion.PeterCT 20:22, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I support a merger as well. Additionally, Aperturescience.com is (according to Network Solutions' WHOIS data) registered and run by Valve-- so it's not strictly a fansite. Bieeanda 15:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I disagree, Black Mesa has its own page for Half-Life and besides, Aperture Science will play an important role in Half-Life 2: Episode Three.. So I am told.

      • For both above comments, we have no idea how much ApSci will be in Ep3. If it is huge, then it likely should get its own article. But maybe we learn nothing new of ApSci in Ep3 (maybe they get waylaid back to Black Mesa...) - building a page

based on speculation of a future event is not advised. However, all we have is a minimal collection of facts from Portal, from the website, and mention in Ep2. There is not enough detail (in-universe, not even considering out-of-universe) to support a separate page -- or one that will encourage speculation.--MASEM 21:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is confirmed we will go on an aperture science vessel, also Gabe Newell said in an interview the episodes will reveal backstory of Aperture Science.--88.212.102.217 10:42, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uhm...the merging happended without concluding the discussion...--88.212.102.217 15:40, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Content

[edit]

What do you all think of the new content? This is actually my first wiki, so i have high hopes for this. 12:14, 14 February 2010Mastado —Preceding undated comment added 16:25, 15 February 2010 (UTC).[reply]

This won't work. We already have a section on Aprature on the Portal article as well as at Locations in the Half-Life series, so repeating the primary information is not good enough. We need to have criticism and reception information as well as information about the setting's development to break out a new article from what is already there. Duplicating the fictional timeline from the website/game is not appropriate for WP. --MASEM (t) 16:40, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
