Suggested Expansions
[edit]A few thoughts;
- Greater variety of sources; Willcock is a good reference but there are many more modern works on this topic. I'm happy to provide these although it might change the emphasis here and there;
- Planning expand this because its important in understanding why it failed ie Monmouth was instrumental in putting down the dissident Presbyterians in 1678-80, which undercut Argyll while William of Orange had no interest in promoting a rebellion that would effectively disinherit his wife (Mary, then heir to James). Again, I'm happy to do that and you can edit.
- Aftermath; ditto here, because a big question is how James managed to throw away such a strong position in Scotland; within less than two years ie what changed. Again, I'm happy to do that and you can edit (I've written different versions of this in other articles :)).
- Style; Per Blaise Pascale; 'I didn't have time to write you a long letter, so I wrote you a short one instead.' I tend to overwrite stuff and a couple of editors gave me that feedback which I found really helpful. Since this is an Encyclopaedia, stuff that's interesting to me might make it of less value to the people reading it ie sometimes less is more (and that's why I find footnotes useful.)

- An expanded planning and aftermath section would be great, there's a lot of scope there, particularly in terms of the wider (geo)political context which is really missing at present. I will have a look again at the article overall in light of your suggestions on style.
- Which are the modern sources you were thinking of? Willcock's bio is old, but is still very detailed so is useful in a basic dates / places sort of way.Svejk74 (talk) 21:33, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
