Additional picture[edit]

There needs to be an additional picture added to the main page showing the ribbon with all three devices on it (the hourglass, m device, and numeral device). This is a complicated ribbon, and should be shown as such. Rarelibra (talk) 17:29, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've mentioned these devices at {{ribbon devices}}, and there was a bit of discussion about it. However, nobody has a high-quality png or svg image (with a transparent background) of the devices to use: all three hourglasses, the M, and the numerals 0-9. Errors[edit]

In the second paragraph, there are some errors: "To be awarded the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, a service member must complete a total of ten years service as a member of a Reserve or National Guard component of the United States military. This service may be cumulative, provided that the combined ten years of service was performed over a period of twelve consecutive years. Voluntary recalls to active duty are not counted within the ten years of service nor is service within the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). In addition, unlike the Reserve Good Conduct Medal, a service member’s disciplinary history is not a factor when awarding the Armed Forces Reserve Medal."

Volutary recalls to active duty are not disqualifying service, unless the Component in which such service is performed is Regular. Recall to active duty as a Reservist or National Guardsman does qualify, as such service continues in the Reserve component (even though in an active duty status).

And service within the IRR may be qualifying, provided all other requirements are met, i.e., if the service is honorable and otherwise meets the 10 qualifying years within a 12 year timetable. Service in the IRR, as is all service in the reserve categories Ready Reserve and Standby Reserve, is reserve service and MAY be qualifying if such service meets the regulations.

Not quite fixed. See [1]. The large medal we see is the Obverse side; the 6 small images are for the reverse sides. So the image caption should be changed. Thanks. – S. Rich (talk) 01:21, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not certain what you mean. The graphic is already labeled with the title "Reverse." I think the confusion may be how the graphics are displayed on the page. Thus, I added the title "Obverse" to the first image on the page, I hope that helps.--McChizzle (talk) 13:32, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adding the "Obverse" certainly helps because it clears up what that top image is. (Thanks!) Two minor tweaks remain: Can you adjust the borders on the images? The bottom of the Obverse medal image is cut off slightly. And for "Reverse", how about a caption like "Reverse sides for different services". – S. Rich (talk) 13:55, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Duct Tape Avenger, I should have checked your claim before making a change. My original graphic is correct, please read the following reference: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/armymedals/ss/afrm.htm. Also, the symbol used for the reverse of the National Guard version of the medal is the same symbol used for the National Guard Bureau and is the Branch of Service device worn by Army National Guard Bureau officers. --McChizzle (talk) 13:58, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Armed Forces Reserve Medal and "M" Device article/ talk[edit]

AFRM--DoD Awards Manual 1348.33, V1-3, Nov. 23, 2010 is the most current and updated of the service awards manuals and in preference to the other award manuals. Some of the names of the service devices have been changed (now Arabic Numerals; now is a subsequent award device).

Numeral device. "Award Numeral" doesn't work, not authorized or used in any award manaual.

Adding Devices to the ribbon template[edit]

I have uploaded highres SVG's of the hourglasses and "M" to commons.

I have also submitted the code via the {{Ribbon devices/device}} Talk Page to have the devices added into {{Ribbon devices}}.
