I've removed the warez text. It's hardly a bait and switch, and a particularly stupid example.

Music

I've removed this text:

"Sometimes music genres will be marketed with unrelated styles since record companies and the musicians themselves will take advantage of the vague criteria music genres will have. For instance, when Rock and roll was new in the 1950s, it had a full arrangement of instruments such as guitar, piano/organ, horn-based instruments such as trumpet, saxophone, etc. However the genre later employed slower tempo and more ballad-like sound."

As it is somewhere between patent nonsense and irrelevant. I have also removed:

"And depending on music taste, ballad-like sound of music genres that also have upbeat dance tracks will sometimes be perceived as a bait-and-switch technique since the people who market this media try to appeal to a wider audience."

As it seems to be suggesting that a CD containing anything other than homogeneous tracks are somehow fraudulent. That is POV, unsourced, and a fairly weird POV at that. Linguistixuck (talk) 16:16, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Broader Definition Required

The "Bait and Switch" doesn't require that the advertised item be out of stock. The alternative model, referred to as "naildown", requires the salesman to actively work to convince the customer not to buy the advertised item (referred to as a "naildown"), but to buy a different item. The salesman is usually offered an incentive in the form of a commission on the alternate item, and can even be penalized commission for selling the naildown item. arbitrary reference to Tennessee

Out of curosity, why give the example: "In state politics (e.g., Tennessee)" ? Are we giving readers an example of a state that has politics? :) In my opinion, since this can apply to any state, I'm going to remove it. Please correct me if I'm missing something on this. Bait ans Switch?

Would bait and switch apply when making a decision for the purchase of a certain mobile home, and then when the process has begun, a product of lesser value is substituted, by the sales person, on the basis of keeping the cost down, unbeknownst to the buyer? Other contexts...

Could anyone offer some clarification on why airlines and resorts can routinely get away with the bait-and-switch tactics described? This article would benefit from some clarification on why such tactics are able to be used when bait-and-switch is illegal. Can we add sections for the term "bait and switch" used in informal, colloquial contexts? No doubt where it derives from, it is also used outside the contexts of actual fraud, e.g. plot summaries for fiction. (In fact, I arrived here while surfing from I My Me! Agree. The term is used when talking about stage magic, e.g. card tricks. It can also be used in politics, a google for "bait and switch" politics gives 6 570 000 hits, where most on the first page is on topic.188.126.81.249 (talk) 09:44, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
