Isabel Stevenson Award problem

The award is now listed twice. I don't care which section it gets mentioned in, but it should not be mentioned in both. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:20, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

New Images

Someone has added nice new images to the article, but now I see that they have not properly added copyright information, so we are going to have to go back to the previous two images as soon as they get deleted. -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:12, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Less prestigious awards

Regarding this new info: "Peters was nominated for "Best Guest Actress In A Drama Series" for the Smash episode "The Workshop" by the Pan-American Association of Film & Television Journalists...." Peters has been nominated for Emmys, and she has won lots of very prestigious awards. I think that describing less prestigious awards, like from the PAFTJ, just dilutes the article and does not add anything of encyclopedic interest. I would remove this. If she got reviewed in the role by a well-known reviewer, a pithy quote from the reviewer would be better, I think. This sort of award is better mentioned in a reference book or on a website devoted to Peters' career that aims to be complete. Just my opinion. Happy editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:32, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Do what you want. Heaven knows I do not want this article to be anything less than gold.Flami72 (talk) 19:50, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't want to do it. If I have persuaded you, please do it. If you still disagree with me, I'll leave it for now. -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:58, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
It does not matter whether I disagree or not, the award has been questioned by a highly respected and experienced editor. Therefore, I have commented the offending text out, but want to take some time in the next few days to look at policies and guidelines governing what awards to show in an actor's article. Flami72 (talk) 09:43, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
I'll be interested to hear what you find out. As far as musicals are concerned, MarianWilde and I have been discussing this very issue, and at least the two of us think that too many lesser awards are being shown in musicals articles, and that awards such as Outer Critics' Circle are not needed, especially where Drama Desk and Tonys are also present. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:53, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Images

I have commented out an image from 2004, of Peters signing in Shubert Alley. I took that photo, but it is really not very good (my poor photography skills, simple camera, poor available light at 11:00pm or so, nothing to do with the subject herself). I also added back an image that was deleted, of Peters in 2011 at Kennedy Center (I took that photo, and I think it is a good one). I deleted one image of her from 2006 at Broadway Barks in favor of the newly added image from 2011 (also at Broadway Barks). In my opinion, one image of Peters at Broadway Barks is sufficient and I like recent photos. (Unless, of course, there is a good reason to show what the person looked like at a certain time in a certain role, for example..there is always an exception!) Flami72 (talk) 09:43, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

I have replaced the infobox image with the image that we had earlier compromised on. I really prefer your Gypsy 2004 photo signing autographs (File:Bernadette Peters 2004.jpg) to your 2011 Kennedy Center photo, where she looks rather tired, for the 1980s-present section. I agree that the later one is a more skillful photo, but I don't think it's very flattering to Peters, and the 2004 one is fun and colorful. It also has the advantage of being able to be placed left. But they're both your photos, and so if you don't agree, then I defer to your choice between the two. I disagree that "recent is better", especially since we already have the very recent Broadway Barks photo. The new Broadway Barks photo is great, although the older one is also very good and might be worth using somewhere else in the article, since we don't have free images of the Muppets, etc. The star photo is super. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:05, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
I agree that the 2004 photo is fun--it was her birthday, she had just finished 2 Saturday performances of Gypsy, she was signing for maybe 50 (yes) fans, and she was about to attend a small private birthday party (Good heavens, why isn't she tired??). In the 2011 photo, she had just finished the last performance of Follies at the Ken Center, about 3/4 of an hour prior to the shoot, and she was not in her home city. If you really like the 2004, by all means include it (I don't know where).

The 2011 BB is great, although I prefer a photo without sunglasses, which is one reason, I guess, I like my 2011 Ken Center photo. I love the star. The old BB is also good, I just did not think that 2 BB images would be acceptable. By all means, put it back (where??).

Add--I restored the 2006 Broadway Barks image (that I had deleted earlier) and placed it in a section with some relevance, I think. I put it on the left because the following section has an image on the right. Flami72 (talk) 19:42, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

The image in the infobox is fine, the photo quality is not the best but she has her happy face on! Flami72 (talk) 18:57, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm all for happy!  :-) -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:36, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

I've uploaded three Bernadette' photos from the tv shows 70's:

--Alrofficial (talk) 18:16, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

I hope these are really public domain. I added the Tim Conway one here, and I added the Paradise Lost one to the Paradise Lost (play) article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:54, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Please review the MOS regarding punctuation inside or outside quotes. In Wikipedia, generally, the punctuation goes outside the end quote, unless it is inside in the source being quoted. Also, many editors do not prefer the serial comma (which is optional), so please do not add it to articles unless the regular editors of the article don't mind. In general, the MOS says "defer to the style used by the first major contributor" unless a consensus can be reached to the contrary. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:19, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

For the record, I did check all of the archived links that the bot has listed, including the links marked dead link. Most are working, I added a few refs where needed because of dead links, and I updated the url in a few. I do not know how to show my work on the template as the bot requests, so I am leaving this note so that others will know that at least one editor has made a pass at looking at all of the archived material. Fair use rationale for File:Bernadette pennies.jpg

File:Bernadette pennies.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a non-free use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Tables at the bottom of the page

Please do not add trivia to the tables at the bottom of the page. If an appearance was of encyclopedic importance, please discuss it in the narrative section of the article above, citing WP:RSs, before adding it to the table. Talk show appearances are not generally of encyclopedic importance. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:22, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Refs in credits sections

If the body of the article cites a WP:RS that verifies that Peters performed in a particular production, broadcast or event, it should not need to be repeated in the lists of credits near the bottom. Just checking: are the new refs in the list different from the ones in the body of the article? If so, are they better cites than the ones that are given in the body of the article? -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:49, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Controversy section

@Ssilvers re: Bernadette Peters Wiki page, I appreciate your feedback and reference to the WP:CSection. I read it and see what you mean about avoiding "criticism or controversies”, however, this paragraph that you omitted was meant to be informative and present both sides of a story that was widely covered in both New York and national media and continues on. I think the "poorly cited" comment is unfair as sources for this news story range from Vanity Fair, The Today Show and NY1, to Yahoo News, and countless others. If there are specifics that you feel should be omitted to keep the 'neutral point of view' policy enforced, I am open but to strike the entire section and say its trivia, is extreme. I am not as experienced as you with the citations so pardon the twitter one which can be removed as it doesn’t go to the heart of the incident that Ms. Peters is embroiled with. A mention of the story and situation seems warranted under the overall spirit of sharing the information without opinion and with proper citations. I am happy to work with you to clean it up but your commentary would suggest you will take down anything that I try to post on this matter. Am I understanding you correctly ? Diligence311 (talk) 23:59, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi. First of all, there is already a section of the article under "Other Activities" that discusses Broadway Barks, and any new important information about Peters and Broadway Barks should go there. I took a look at the news coverage, and it mostly focuses on the return of Broadway Barks post-Covid, that it was an especially star-studded event, that many shelter organizations were represented at the event, and mentions that Peters masterfully shut down some activists who showed up at the event to protest the HSNY, one of the shelter organizations. In addition, what you wrote in Peters' article, per WP:CSECTION, most certainly should not have its own section, especially not under the heading "Controversy". The stuff about whether or not HSNY's shelter is open to the public is not mentioned in any of the press coverage and doesn't belong in Peters' article, even if she was misinformed on the topic. Also, what you wrote about Broadway Barks duplicates information that is already there, and what you wrote about the protest is overwritten. I have added a couple of appropriately cited sentences about the 2022 Broadway Barks event that gives a balanced view of the coverage. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:12, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
All makes sense. Thank you for your attentiveness and helpfulness. Diligence311 (talk) 20:09, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Any issue with my adding her role as "Circe" in "The Odyssey"?

Back in 1997 (yeah, I had to look up the date) she portrayed "Circe", the siren who seduced Armand Assante in the tv-movie "The Odyssey". This is a big enough production I'm surprised it's not listed. Before I add it, anyone know if it was left out for a reason? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118414/characters/nm0001613

Thanks. wiki-ny-2007 (talk) 02:26, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

We have it here. This was a TV miniseries: The Odyssey (1997 miniseries). Yes, you can add it to her narrative text in the Television appearances section, but don't cite IMDb, which is an unacceptable reference. Instead, you could cite this. And this: The New York Times did not like her in the role. Neither did The Washington Post. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:11, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
