Linear or not

The cation is apparently somewhat deformable. Not sure why. Reality of allene-like bonding is questionable perhaps.--Smokefoot (talk) 20:25, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Smokefoot: Bis(triphenylphosphine)iminium isn't linear (or at least only very rarely is, I could only find one report of it). I'd expect that the ease of bending at the nitrogen is due to negative hyperconjugation partially stabilizing the linear conformation. OrganoMetallurgy (talk) 03:42, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are probably correct. It just doesnt care too much, but I doubt that there is any intrinsic driving force for nonlinearity. --Smokefoot (talk) 12:38, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
