Talk:Brake assist
Bad Drivers
[edit]Am I the only person who sees a problem with technology like this? First of all, I think instead of aiding bad drivers, we should take them off the road. If someone can't drive, why have a machine help them? Yeah, this could save lives, but why not just prevent it in the first place. The highways are already overcrowded and we could solve that by taking bad drivers off the road. Secondly, what if this technology fails, and the car slams on the breaks in the middle of the highway for no reason. Has anyone seen the backup sensors on new cars? Ever see one malfunction and beep all the time? I have, and that would not be good for an automatic breaking system. I don't want a car randomly breaking on the highway and causing huge accidents. I agree with the proposal to merge the topics "Brake Assist" and "Emergency Brake Assist" as tehy are basically covering the same subject. Eeno11 (talk) 07:43, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- I agree too. Biscuittin (talk) 20:13, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
pre-tensioning the brakes
[edit]I don't understand what "pre-tensioning the brakes" or "pre-charge the brakes" mean. Why are they not "tensioned" or "charged" all the time? Also, if anybody have information like surveys of what people think of the system in practice and if one ever notices the system outside emergency situations etc that would be interesting. The whole technology sounds a little bit weird to me. -- LM 2010-01-06 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.173.131.195 (talk) 05:58, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Let me see if I can help explain. Typical power brake boosters work off engine vacuum, vacuum pump, or some similar method -- producing maximum power boost could be what their referring to, which would (logically) occur at maximum engine vacuum -- typically slightly above idle speed. I didn't find any technical explanation of the system and the article fails to cite one, so I'm only going off a few deductions. If it uses an external boosting system, such as electronic solenoids, it may remove freeplay and insert additional boost-force during a presumed "emergency" situation where a brake application is made, and apply full-brake force if only partial pedal-force is applied. 184.153.196.39 (talk) 00:28, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Needs updating
[edit]"In October 2007 the European Commission announced that it wanted Brake Assist to be included on all new models sold in the EU as standard by 2009.[1]" -Don't you think some 2010 source about having implemented this in 2009 would be appropriate? Or if it didn't go through an update. Althepal (talk) 04:14, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
generic nouns not capitalized
[edit]If, as the article says, "brake assist" is a generic term, it is not a proper noun, and therefore should not be capitalized. Similarly, the article's title should be "assist" and not "Assist," as well as the redirect of "Brake assist" to this title be removed; if wanted, they should be swapped. -- Joe (talk) 22:37, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

It says it's a generic term in the first sentence.
Per WP:MOSCAPS ("Wikipedia avoids unnecessary capitalization") and WP:TITLE, this is a generic, common term, not a propriety or commercial term, so the article title should be downcased. Lowercase will match the formatting of related article titles. Tony (talk) 11:16, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
