Would it be true to say that at the site of the bridge:

  • the river is at the start of its rapids, and that no large ships need be catered for.
  • the ground at the start of these rapids is fairly solid (made of rock) and make for good foundations?
  • the bridge could be made of a large number of small spans rather than a small number of large spans?

All reference links except for the first are dead, would it be useful to delete them? Does anyone have other sources
