Initial allocation[edit]

I have added a {{dubious}} because I don't accept that the 1963 edition of the Ian Allan (note spelling) Locoshed Book is a valid source for the initial allocation of locomotives which entered service ten years earlier. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:02, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I accept your intitial scepticism. Since then I have discovered a database on line which shows that the intitial allocation of the locomotives was Ipswich. The website is http://www.brdatabase.info/locoqry.php?action=class&id=56&type=D&page=alloc. Although a work inprogress - and below is an e-mail for Ian the chap who has prepared this database on sources he has used (although not specific to this class). I hope you find this acceptable and will withdraw the dubious.

Hi,

I've used many sources to be honest: the basic data came from britishsteam. com, railuk.info, steamsheds.co.uk and one or two others. This has been expanded and turned in to relational data so that better reporting, relationships and summaries can be produced. The allocations have all come from Ian Allan Trains Illustrated and Modern Railways magazines, scanned, OCR'ed and turned into SQL. RCTS books have been invaluable, as have other books on my shelves and some contributors have been very helpful too. Many other sources have been used, but those mentioned are the principle ones.

There is so much to be done it is sometimes a bit overwhelming, but I'll nibble away at it, bit by bit!

Regards,

Ian
