Move the page

[edit]

I think the page is best servd by moving the name to Bugatti Chiron instead of Bugatti Chiron (2016). The other Bugatti Chiron is the "Bugatti 18/3 Chiron" which is different from the current car. It can be just served by naming the page "Bugatti Chiron". I think it iwll be known that way.Winterysteppe (talk) 18:06, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nah. The primary topic for this car is the 2017 supercar, not the concept. Prodigy55 (talk) 23:24, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What does this car look like?

[edit]

http://bestcarmag.com/makes/Bugatti/Chiron <- It seems like there are a lot of different designs out there being labeled as the upcoming Chiron. What's the source of the blue car currently in the article? Car convention? --RThompson82 (talk) 00:43, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Chiron was based on Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo, which is the first image on the article. Prodigy55 (talk) 23:25, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Which is it?

[edit]

Did it do 0 to 400km/h in 41.96 sec or 32.6 sec? The article states both. FYI - theWOLFchild 22:17, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article states 0-400-0 in 41.96 seconds, 0-400 (not back to a standstill) in 32.6 seconds. Bahooka (talk) 22:47, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see now. Seems I missed that extra "-0". Thanks. - theWOLFchild 00:10, 11 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Agera RS beating the record

[edit]

Why do the edits keep getting deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8388:501:2700:71E4:75DE:11A9:E465 (talk) 07:46, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That would be me. It's better to just list what each car can do on it's own rather than a tangled web of which car beat which car, which leads into a big pissing contest. List of automotive superlatives, Production car speed record and List of fastest production cars by acceleration are more appropriate places to put comparisons.  Stepho  talk  10:13, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Possible false information about LEGO model

[edit]

The Wikipedia article currently states:

"With the exception of the wheels and the Bugatti badge, every part was constructed with LEGO Technic elements."

but this source states:

"This was laid over a steel frame; one of three ‘parts’ that aren’t actually Lego (the others being the real Chiron wheels and a steel roll cage)."

I don't see where the current information came from (I didn't find it in the source) but it is false in my opinion and should be changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeyekomon (talkcontribs) 12:33, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Topspeed article listed way more than three - the Bugatti badge, the wheels, a steel frame, a steel roll cage, a steel drive chain and the seat belts. Wasn't sure about the rear axle but I guess it doesn't really matter. I have amended the article.  Stepho  talk  22:35, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

The result of this discussion was a merge to the Bugatti Chiron page due to a vote in favour of the merge and due to no votes against it.U1 quattro TALK 15:41, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Aab254 the Veneno had sufficient information to have its own page. It also doesn't have a separate heading on the Lamborghini Aventador page anymore like this car. It's not a production car but a one-off with limited data being available. It's not even complete yet so a mention on the Bugatti Chiron page like present there is sufficient. U1 quattro TALK 17:54, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah I'm definitely in favor of a Merge – there's just not enough distinguishing this car from the Chiron and it's status as a one-off makes it not important enough to warrant its own page. Aab254 (talk) 21:38, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Top speed record

[edit]

Toasted Meter you seem like more of an expert than tüv, that independent agency verified the run and the Chiron is now stated as the fastest production car in the world by the media. The Agera RS that made the record previously was equipped with a one MW package which is an optional package. There were also less number of cars made with that package. Furthermore, no official body confirmed that record either, yet it was deemed official by the media and the editors here. U1 quattro TALK 01:15, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

They built one in the spec that reached the speed, none of the modifications are homologated for road use yet, this has barely more relevance to the road car as a Camaro doing 300 mph at Bonneville has to what you can buy at a Chevy dealer. "The speed was certified by the TÜV" -Jalopnik all this means is that the car went as fast as they say it did, even Bugatti describes it as "A pre-production vehicle of a Bugatti Chiron derivative". Toasted Meter (talk) 01:26, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Means it will still enter poduction after road homologation. You nullified your own point. U1 quattro TALK 10:41, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It might, but it hasn't, we can't act like it will go into production just because you think it will. Toasted Meter (talk) 13:09, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Toasted Meter It's not my thought but the thought of automotive journalists.U1 quattro TALK 16:02, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We don't base edits on speculation. Toasted Meter (talk) 16:05, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah? Then FYI, this article stated before "The top speed of the Chiron is speculated to be 310 mph." what is this? U1 quattro TALK 02:45, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't write it. Toasted Meter (talk) 10:01, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not saying that you did but this negates your statement.U1 quattro TALK 15:49, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at what we are given from the references:

  1. bugatti.com - We cannot trust a first party source alone for this type of information because it is in Bugatti's interest to make the biggest claim. But even they claim it is a near-production car - ie it is not a production vehicle. They also list modifications such as aerodynamic improvements and special tyres.
  2. Business Insider - Very light on details.
  3. YouTube video - just shows as "Video unavailable"

From this I agree with Toasted Meter that, fantastic as the car is, it isn't a production car. However, we can happily list it in this article as a factory modified vehicle.  Stepho  talk  10:23, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stepho-wrs YouTube is not even a reliable source to begin with. The YouTube video cited in the article is running on my end.U1 quattro TALK 15:49, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The video is still unavailable to me with no reason give. I can only guess that it is either a subscription thing or a regional thing (only available in US?). Reliability of the video (when view-able) depends on who made it. Sometimes the major magazines release videos on YouTube of their performance testing - those videos on YouTube are very reliable. Sometimes a backyarder takes a car out for a thrash - those are usually not reliable. Anyway, from the sources that I can actually access we have a modified pre-production vehicle, not a production vehicle.  Stepho  talk  21:21, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It is available to me here in Europe as well with no subscription at all so its not a US only thing. Also the video shows the original footage rater than the edited footage Bugatti posted. Yeah, we can asses that the car is pre-production as said in the video description.U1 quattro TALK 05:40, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, the Top Gear video on YouTube has decided to show itself to me now. I trust Top Gear videos like this (although I don't trust them when they are doing their comedy act). It doesn't really change anything. Bugatti has modified a pre-production car - awesome but not a production car.  Stepho  talk  11:03, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Toasted Meter, Stepho-wrs NOW it is a production car.U1 quattro TALK 15:14, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
True, however the production one will have a speed limiter, it will be interesting to see what it's set at. Toasted Meter (talk) 15:23, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It would come with a key to remove it. Otherwise, there is no point of naming it as such.U1 quattro TALK 15:28, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"and an electronic speed limiter (just like the ‘standard’ Chiron) to make sure you don’t do the triple-ton on the autobahn. But it hasn’t been decided what this speed limiter will be set at." -Top Gear[1], apparently the specifics will be out on Monday. Toasted Meter (talk) 15:42, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
They never said it was something permanent. You're just confusing things. Yeah, sure we'd wait til tomorrow but my point is proven here. Koenigsegg has been beaten in their unofficial record game and will be following Bugatti's footsteps again.U1 quattro TALK 15:46, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The production cars are slightly different to the record car (ride height, no roll cage, speed limiter, includes a passenger seat) but do include the engine changes and the body changes. Not clear about the tyres. But I will concede the point anyway.  Stepho  talk  21:09, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The same was the case with the Aventador SVJ and the GT2 RS that set the Nurburgring lap record for production cars. Both had rollcages installed and passenger seat removed and we're not road legal if they were to be driven on the road. I don't know why everyone is making a big deal out of the Chiron even after knowing these facts.. Rideheight and tyres would be the same otherwise it won't get to the speed indicated in the name.U1 quattro TALK 03:18, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also now we get to the top speed discussion, the McLaren F1, a car that was sold with a rev limiter to customers, performed the record with the rev limiter removed and was still considered the fastest production car in the world for 10 long years. The car which set the record was the XP5, a pre production prototype. It should've been not included in the list as it was not street legal in one of its markets, the US. Point is that there are examples which negate your point.U1 quattro TALK 03:24, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also here is the proof now Toasted Meter, Bugatti will make the arrangements for owners who want to take the car to it's limit at Ehra Leissen which will involve it being modified in the same way as the record setting car. Also did you actually READ what is written in the Difficulties with claims section of Production car speed record page? Guinness is not against the remover of speed limiter.[2] U1 quattro TALK 11:31, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is there something that I have missed? WP can only use information that is verifiable. The only information we had a few days ago was that the record car was a modified pre-production car - which is not valid for WP's purpose. New information has now been published that it truly is a production car and nobody is trying to disallow it. Surely the matter has been resolved.  Stepho  talk  11:55, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There is just some misinformation, that's all.U1 quattro TALK 11:57, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no problem.  Stepho  talk  12:02, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SuperSport 300+

[edit]

Hi, the last paragraph says that Bugatti "claims" the 300+ can reach over 300mph. However, since the car has been tested on a track and has reached over 304mph, wouldn't it be safe to remove the "Bugatti claims" part, and just say it can reach over 300mph, since the top speed has already been proven? Redstoneprime (talk) 17:52, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The record car reached 304 mph. But the production car called the 300+ is not the same car. In Bugatti's own words, it is only visually similar.  Stepho  talk  22:31, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The production version has the same bodywork, engine and gearbox so it's essentially the same car, the changes don't affect top speed much: https://www.topgear.com/car-news/supercars/bugatti-chiron-super-sport-300-production-300mph-car Drachentötbär (talk) 15:25, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Apart from standard seat instead of safety grade racing seat, addition of a passenger seat, missing roll cage, higher suspension ride-height and a speed-limiter. There may, or may not, be other differences. In Bugatti's own words, "this very special edition of the Chiron is visually and technically inspired by the record-breaking vehicle". https://www.bugatti.com/models/chiron-models/chiron-super-sport-300/ Inspired by, not identical to.  Stepho  talk  00:20, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
[MOS:CLAIM] To write that someone asserted or claimed something can call their statement's credibility into question, by emphasizing any potential contradiction or implying a disregard for evidence.
I don't see how this is justified here.
Here I found the source of your "only" visually similar. I guess I was not the only one deceived into believing that the prototype and production version are totally different but after checking the sources recently I found out the "only" was just an invention by this editor and that the cars are pretty similar.
If two cars have the same bodywork (aerodynamics), engine and gearing (power) one would usually assume that they have similar top speed. What reasons or sources do you have to shatter the credibility of the manufacturer stating the obvious ? Drachentötbär (talk) 19:36, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, my last message provided both a quote direct from Bugatti and the URL the quote was taken from. That quote from Bugatti says that the production 300+ is "inspired" by the record breaking car. What manufacturer wouldn't take the opportunity to say that the production car is a record breaking car. But they didn't. Many of the differences are small or are safety features (eg, race seat, roll cage). But that ride height is a big difference. Did they use the same tyres, springs, shocks and brakes? Did they use exact same gearing in both the gearbox and diff?  Stepho  talk  07:26, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gearing is the same and the production version lowers ride height in top speed mode.

Looks to me that Bugatti never directly said something about the top speed without limiter, there's only carthrottle interpreting "As implied by the ‘300+’ bit tacked onto the end of the name, it’s capable of going as fast as the prototype." We can remove the sentence when updating the article and leave the interpretation to the readers. Drachentötbär (talk) 20:00, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

La Voiture Noire

[edit]

It isn't a Chiron version, it is based on that car, but it's wrong...🤦🏻‍♂️ Mich P (talk) 19:17, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

From the article, it's a one-off concept car by the factory based on the production Chiron but heavily modified (as is typical of concept cars). Many other car articles also show factory concept cars. I don't see a problem.  Stepho  talk  02:46, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
