Terminology
[edit]I can't speak for our collegues over at the Dutch wikiproject, but speaking from a Belgian perspecive, I think the French-language version (Bourgmestre) has a wider currency in the English language than Burgemeester. On another note, could this entire article not profitably be moved to form a subsection of either Burgomaster (another curious spelling itself) or Mayor? ---Brigade Piron (talk) 15:54, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- The same idea here. It is a sign of laziness to keep words untranslated when enough alternatives are present. Moreover, it is a sign of arrogance: as if the Dutch are that exceptional that the word “burgemeester” cannot be properly translated into English, not even by the word burgomaster, that is directly connected to it! Unless anyone objects next week, I’ll redirect this article to burgomaster. Jeff5102 (talk) 07:22, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
