Proposed merger: second thoughts
[edit]I proposed this merger, but already I see a problem with it. The fish currently pictured on cave fish, Astyanax mexicanus, is indeed a cave fish, but apparently belongs to the Characidae, not the Amblyopsidae. I suspect this is not the only such case. "Cave fish" refers to an ecological niche, not to a taxon, and certainly not to a clade. So I think that the merger I've suggested ought to be changed, rather, to a split tag to be placed on Amblyopsidae, suggesting that information specific to the ecological niche, and not to the taxon, be split out from that article to cave fish or cavefish or cave-fish or whatever the name ought to be (the others can redirect to it). arkuat (talk) 10:09, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
