Tannin (Monster)

[edit]

May I ask why Tannin (monster) is listed as an Arabic God on this page? I don’t believe this was stated on the entity’s own Wikipedia page (I think it’s just referred to as a sea monster). However, if there is a source that supports the decision to include Tannin as a chaos god, may I request the link to it? Thank you!

Here's the source from the Tannin article. "Personification of chaos" is mentioned near the end, two pages on. That dictionary entry seems to say that Tannin came originally from Ugarit, then made it into the Old Testament, and was subsequently absorbed into various other traditions. (There is a list, in the entry, of languages in which texts mention cognates of Tannin, and Arabic is one.) Perhaps "Arabian" (note, this article does not say "Arabic") is an attempt to express the idea of "generally known of all around that area", but if you can think of a better way to express that, which agrees with the source, go ahead and change it. You could, for instance, simply move Tannin above the "Arabian" heading so that it's in the outer scope. Oh, and on talk pages (like this page), please sign your posts (by typing ~~~~ or clicking the handy button).  Card Zero  (talk) 11:02, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
