Chade and the Farseer section[edit]

Seems to me that this section is heavily angled toward Chade, where Fitz is the main character- reads to me to have been written by someone for whom Chade is a favourite character. I feel it needs a rewrite to refocus the section on Fitz. (For example, at current Fitz's bio is even centred around Chade/his relationship to him. Should really be the other way round, if we're not just going to describe each character as a seperate entity.)Himynameishelen (talk) 01:25, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dutiful[edit]

The family tree is technically incorrect, although open to opinion. Dutiful is biologically Fitz's son. It's not desperately in need of changing, but I thought that I would mention it.

It's a complicated situation, Fitz is only Dutiful's father in the way a sperm donor is a father, the DNA is there, but in all official senses Verity is the father- a family tree lists accepted, official relationships, rather than technical ones, so to have Verity listed as the father is correct.Himynameishelen (talk) 23:46, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I just started reading "The Tawny Man" trilogy, and the fact that Dutiful is witted does make him more Fitz-y. Is there some way a secondary line could perhaps be drawn, joining Dutiful to both Verity and Fitz, with a demarkation explaining the duality of his conception? Although he's Verity's legitimate child it does seem sensible to link him to Fitz as well, considering the circumstances of his birth.Himynameishelen (talk) 16:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Fool[edit]

I notice that we're going back and forth on some of the edits. Would people mind if we kept the part about saving the world but removed the bit about the Whites and instead said that he doesn't consider himself a member of another race of beings? Ladlergo 15:48, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But he does consider himself a member of another race of beings, that is why he knew that he could never be more than a friend to Fitz. Also, Fitz notices it whilst occupying The Fool's body in the last book how different they were. David3001 02:03, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

have you not read the book? Hobb makes it quite clear he is another race =) 23:19, 29th may 2007

He's not of another race, the whites were another race and "long ago" they migled their bloodlines with humans and every so often the result of those mingled bloodlines reappears. --82.41.26.43 21:28, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Therefore his DNA is not strictly human, meaning he's of another race.Himynameishelen (talk) 23:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He/She should be more properly called Fool, as that is the name Fitz gave him and it stuck. The fool or Shrewd's fool are more his/her job. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.118.75.203 (talk) 00:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've edited the part about the Fool being male by "common consensus" since that's not true, he's mostly seen as male in the first and third trilogy and as female in the Liveship trilogy. Also, I've changed a couple of pronouns for the times s/he is represented as female (crowned prophet and Amber). --Oconel (talk) 09:16, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reformatting[edit]

This page is in great need of reformatting. Ideas include:

  • Resorting characters by trilogy, then into rank.
  • Separating royalty by country.
  • Ordering royalty by proper age/inheritance.
  • Removing spoilers.

Ladlergo 22 December, 2005

  • Removed major spoilers.
  • Created a section for the animals, removing them from commoners

Dilir 00:37, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps a warning in regards to the inclusion of possible spoilers would be more appropriate than the absolute removal of them. In some cases, the removal of such information renders specific entries as particularly sparse and unfulfilled. - Featherfin 02:14, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My belief is that this page should serve as a guide for people who are curious about the series, not as a collection of biographies for every character (that would be appropriate to individual pages). The personal guideline I work by is that information should be (usually) limited to what's in the first book of each trilogy. Yes, Kettricken has the Wit, but it's hinted at in RA and AQ, and it doesn't become relevant to her character until the Tawny Man trilogy, and thus should not fall under the general Farseer trilogy heading. (And no offense, but I find some of your edits to be rather stilted. I'm going to smooth them out.) Ladlergo 21:59, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The 203.79.72.82 IP address edits are not done by myself. --Featherfin 21:40, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. Ladlergo 18:16, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't like how the lists of characters run together, since there are no header bars underneath each sub-section. Does anyone have an opinion or suggestion on how to fix it without further muddling the divisions? Ladlergo 20:06, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think 'fulll' bios of the characters are most wanted. Added more detail about Burrich and Patience as both are kick-ass characters that just appear bland if spoilers are not included. Further added a small 'spoilers' alert in the begginning as i think that it is going to be consequential that there will be spoilers. And in addition, most people wont come to this page without already knowing about the universe, and wanting to know more, so i think more detailed bios should be included here until individual pages can be made; then at least it is easier to just copy-paste info over Worosei 02:12, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Content creation[edit]

Would people like to divide up the sections? Once we're done with the Farseer Trilogy (I think we're pretty close), we can divy up the Liveships Traders. Perhaps one person gets the Vestrits and other major trader families, another gets the Rainwilders, etc. Opinions? Ladlergo 18:16, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me. I'm happy to flesh out any section of the Liveship Traders really, including the more obscure entries. -- Featherfin 16:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Does anyone mind if I finish up the Farseers? I'm happy to take any character suggestions, but I think we have most (if not all) of the people worth mentioning. Ladlergo 16:00, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Minor Characters[edit]

I'm wondering if Kyle Haven, Satrap Cosgo and Companion Serilla would be more suited to the Minor Chracters section, as they aren't consistantly prominent throughout the entire trilogy.

I'd suggest separating the characters by social class/family, similar to what was done with the Farseers. Some sections: Bingtown Traders, Rainwild Traders, Pirates, Serpents. Ships could have their own section, but should certainly be mentioned with their trader families. Ladlergo 16:02, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Off-site wiki for all things Hobb[edit]

I hope this won't be considered rude and/or spamming, but I wanted to let you know that I've started a separate wiki for Hobb's worlds. The current aim is to list only RotE characters, places and items, but it might be expanded to other stories later. Character profiles will be complete (including spoilers), and all characters, minor and major, will be listed. You're welcome to take a look and contribute at http://www.theplenty.net/wiki/

Please remove this message if it's considered not appropriate. 83.100.41.232 16:29, 7 April 2006 (UTC) Mervi[reply]

Feel free to work off of stuff we have here. Were you thinking of going with sumamries or detailed biographies? Ladlergo 19:45, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. :) Well, more like biographies where it's possible. The current "content" is mostly just a draft or a listing of characters that can be added upon though. 83.100.41.232 23:33, 7 April 2006 (UTC) Mervi[reply]

I suggest that we work on these characters on this page for now. Then, when they have more content, move them to their own page. --David

Some suggestions[edit]

Shouldn't there be a section in the discussion about characters in the Liveship Traders series for discussion about the serpants?

Currently, this article is really just a list of characters. An encylopedia entry should be more than that. See the article on The Foundation Series for an example. Yes, it has a list of characters, much like this article only less detailed; but it also has plot summaries. Perhaps this article could have plot summaries by book? Try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but discuss how the books relate to eachother. At the moment it is quite long, but yet content-lite. I'm currently reading the last book in the Tawny Man series, but it's been a while since I read the earlier books. Perhaps I'll re-read them and work on this article some later. In the meantime, those are some suggestions. ONUnicorn 20:53, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to add a section on the serpents. Off the top of my head, I don't think there's more than 3 or 4 who are important (minus She Who Remembers, and I'm iffy about adding her, given she's a giant spoiler).
Plot summaries would go under the article for each book. Feel free to write those.
Given the massive list of characters here, adding more to each character would make it much, much longer. If spoiler content (ie plot points) are added to each character, I think we should consider splitting this into three articles, with a list of characters for each trilogy. Ladlergo 11:58, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think too much is made of spoiling. Start the article with a warning and spoil away. Let Bantam Books tease people into buying the books, let this comprehensive wikiarticle be comprehensive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.118.75.203 (talk) 00:22, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Individual Character Pages/Revamp[edit]

I've been watching this article for a while, and really think that the RotE stuff could be better expressed if there were individual character pages/place pages, etc, similar to the lord of the rings information on wikipedia, although it's obvious that RotE is nowhere near that large. I also think it would be good to have a table template for Realm of the Elderlings to use on all of these individual pages. I'm probably going to start working on some of this asap, but I'm fairly new to wikipedia, so I would greatly appreciate it if I could get some help with the effort. --Roshan 03:41, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe that the books (and characters) are notable enough that each character should have a page. Pages for the characters of each trilogy would be appropriate, though. Ladlergo 19:43, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That could be argued, but I still believe that there's not enough specific information on each character on this page alone. Maybe an attempt on something to House Lannister would work? --Roshan 20:50, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That was going to be my next suggestion. I like the format of House -> Family tree -> Characters (spoiler-free overview -> spoiler-filled biography).
Obvious pages:
  • Farseers
  • Major SD nobility
  • Members of the Farseer Court
  • Commoners
  • Animals
  • Bingtown Traders families
  • Vestrits (own page, due to number of characters)
  • Liveships
  • Pirates
  • Rain Wilders
Other picks? Ladlergo 23:20, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
--How about White Prophets/Catalysts, or maybe a separate page for each? I'll add more if I think of more Roshan 03:35, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think they should be paired on one page. Ladlergo 05:36, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I also thought of the Witted Community (Crowsneck, etc) having their own page, and possibly a separate one for skillmasters? Roshan 18:18, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think a page on historical Skill-users would be better. More content, and it would put things in perspective. A page for the Piebalds would be ok, but I'd prefer to see the faction-less people mixed in with the commoners. Ladlergo 18:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what I meant by Skillmasters - historical skill-users. The idea about mixing the rest with the commoners sounds good to me as well. I was wondering how we would start the pages, though. I think that if you could maybe provide some kind of template for each page, I could do info. As I said before, I'm kind of new to Wikipedia and the interface... Also, I would prefer to do more of the Farseer/SD stuff as opposed to anything from the Liveship Trilogy, as I feel that I enjoyed (and have read a billion times) Farseer and Tawny Man much more. --Roshan 23:11, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't done any templates before, but I can look at the pages for other series and see what's there. Ladlergo 03:58, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll see if I can do the same. Are we going to try to make a table-template thing that we could insert at the bottom of each page or something? --Roshan 01:06, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be a good thing to have. How about family trees for some of the pages? Ladlergo 02:17, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely. For Farseers and Vestrits at least. Do we want these trees to be linkable, or just simple-text like the one in House Lannister. I think I've seen versions of family trees on Wikipedia that had each person as a hyperlink to their section of the page... --Roshan 15:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Linkable would be nice, but I'd worry about writing the content first. ;) Ladlergo 22:45, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. As mentioned above, I would prefer to do more of the Farseer material, and I've started a short bio on Dutiful. Do you want to divide this up somehow, as in each of us claim certain characters? --Roshan 03:36, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm actually not sure as to how best divide up the parts. I do think that we should write most of the spoiler-free introductions before we get to the indepth biographies. I think that if we work together, we'll get a more coherent style. Shall we start with the Farseers? Ladlergo 04:25, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I created a tasklist template, I think it will help a little in organization. The page is Template:RotE tasks and can be inserted using {{template:RotE tasks}}. I think it would be good if we added/subtracted from that list, kind of making it a master list of stuff to-do for RotE stuff. Tell me if you like the idea. I am adding this template to the bottom of this page. --Roshan 04:03, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a good idea. Ladlergo 04:25, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey guys, you're doing a great job here - well done! I've made a few small edits to some characters/places - I hope they fit in with your overall style & aims. --ARHC 13:04, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that Prince Dutiful was the biological son of FitzChivalry, but was raised as King Verity's child as he controled Fitz' body during conception. I am sorry for the nitpicking but it was an important point in the relationship with Prince Dutiful and Queen Kettricken. – — … ° ≈ ≠ ± − × ÷ ← → · § RWWimerick 09:20, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that having a page for each trilogy would be a good idea actually, since there are some spoilers for the Tawny Man trilogy in the Farseer trilogy section. That way more characters could be added to each page. I dont think the books are well known enough for characters to have their own pages, but thats my opinion. Personally though I think this whole page needs to be redone. I'd like to try and edit a few things and help to try get things in order when I get the time if nobody has any objections to try and help tidy the page up. -- Lorenna13 (talk) 21:46, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

King Taker[edit]

Near the beginning of Assassin's Apprentice it mentions that King Taker was the First king of the Six Duchies. Shouldn't he be at the top of the Farseer family tree? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.111.167.39 (talk) 02:19, 1 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Tasks for Realm of the Elderlings[edit]

Please add to this list as need be, and please strike through items that have been accomplished. See the Talk Page for more information.

  • Farseers
  • Major SD nobility
  • Members of the Farseer Court
  • Commoners
  • Animals
  • Bingtown Traders families
  • Vestrits (own page, due to number of characters)
  • Liveships
  • Pirates
  • Rain Wilders
  • White Prophets/Catalysts
  • Historical Skill-Users
  • Family Trees would also be nice, but as of now, content is more important.

This is an interesting, detailed article, but, in the absence of any evidence of a source for all of the information, it appears to be original research. The information sources need to be specified, and any material not documented should be removed. Thanks Tim Ross (talk) 11:16, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kettricken[edit]

According to the book assasins apprentice all nobility are supposed to have names that are virtues that the royalty would be incapable of betraying their virtues it bore. In all the books of the Tawney man trilogy and The Farseer trilogy all the Six Duchies nobility have virtues for names as do the Farseers except Fitzchivalry. My question is that when Kettricken married Prince Verity the author fails to mention if she took a name at all of a virtue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Donasy (talkcontribs) 18:46, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Farseer Family Tree[edit]

I think this should either be moved from under The Farseer Trilogy to under The Tawney Man Trilogy since some of the information on the tree is specific to The Tawney Man Trilogy. This would include Mishap the minstrel, Ellianna Blackwater, and Prince Prosper, since none of these character appear at all during The Farseer saga. Also these names could be removed from the family tree in the Farseer section —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.118.146.98 (talk) 19:37, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
