Rationale for Creating the Article 'Chess Today' - June 2017[edit]

Chess Today has now been running for 16 rather than just 6 years. It was the first - and is the longest running - Internet-only daily chess newspaper. It has been read regularly by a number of top chess Grandmasters. It has contained contributions from both Grandmasters and International Masters. It has attracted notice of other media, and is sometimes used by strong players and important officials in the chess world to write open letters to other chess organisations[1]. It has conducted and contained interviews with a number of former World Chess Champions. The original reasoning for deletion[2] focused on the Website 'www.chesstoday.net' and the site was assessed under WP:WEB. However, it is not the site which 'Chess Today' refers to, it is the newspaper itself, which is not obtained from the site or available directly at the site. Rather it is e-mailed out. Thus, notability needs to focus on the newspaper itself, not the website used to subscribe to it. The arguments in the original discussion for keeping the page are made stronger by the passage of time - as it has gained more widespread notice and those who take notice have become more significant. In particular, Anand - who we now know as the five-time World Chess Champion (which he achieved after the original discussion) - was a subscriber. Imnikrist (talk) 11:39, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The references to support these points are present in the article itself. Imnikrist (talk) 11:49, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Further Sources[edit]

It would be excellent if further sources and references could be found. Imnikrist (talk) 15:12, 12 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Critical Reception[edit]

All the reviews I've found are positive, but there's a risk if it's all one-sided of it looking like advertising and it wouldn't seem impartial. If critical reviews could also be found that would make a 'Critical Reception' section worth creating. Imnikrist (talk) 15:12, 12 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image of the front page[edit]

I have followed guidance given at the Teahouse and added the image but having uploaded it to Wikipedia rather than Wikimedia Commons. I hope I've got the 'permissions' right. Thanks for any further guidance offered. Imnikrist (talk) 13:50, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Probably ceased publication[edit]

I can't find any sources but this site appears to have ceased publication. The last post on their Twitter page was December 2017 and the 'Subscribe!' and 'Contact us' links, from their website, are now broken. 2A02:C7F:9425:9900:90DC:E235:5074:54B0 (talk) 23:43, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
