Sorting out the schools and referencing

[edit]

This school has recently merged and changed its name. The three pages however were confused and needed to be updated. I have started the process and there are no false truths left. It is referenced and can now easily be taken to a C or B. ClemRutter (talk) 11:32, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A new page should have been set up - I tried to do this but have limited knowledge on how to do this. By doing this - the GIRLS school information has been deleted! Chichester High School was a NEW School post the merger. TJW713 (talk) 19:46, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Chichester High School for Girls

[edit]

Hello, I have been trying to set up a Chichester High School page for some time - come across issues etc with my lack of knowledge on Wikipedia.

Please can I ask why the page for Chichester High School for Girls has now been ‘converted’ to be the page for Chichester High School?

Like Chichester High School for Boys, the page for the Girls School should still be there as Chichester High School is a NEW school.

When the two schools merged, the new CHS had to take one of the school DfE numbers - it decided to take the CHSG number.

Sadly, whoever has done this to the CHSG page as literally wiped all the CHSG history - why?? TJW713 (talk) 19:44, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone help - I cannot make the edits myself but am happy to talk to someone regarding CHSG/CHSB and the NEW CHS. The information is wrong on the Wikipedia page, is confusing as the school, Chichester High School is a NEW school. (TJW713 (talk) 10:58, 11 May 2020 (UTC))[reply]

CHS formerly CHSG

[edit]

Thanks for the ping. Several of us have been working on the article and are pleased to have you on board. You say you cant make the edits yourself- I assume that is a declaration of Conflict of Interest-WP:COI and is the correct procedure to follow. You, sensibly have not included the schools name in your user name. You can however build up a duplicate page in your sandbox User:TJW713/Sandbox and ping us when you feel it is ready.

You have answered your own question- as CHS school has taken CHSG URN (DfENumber) Wikipedia will always see it as the same school under a different name. That wont change. Wikipedia stores all the previous renditions of the school, so even if it is not visible it can be recovered. On the top line there is a tab- View History and you have access to all of them. In effect it is a list of changes- and every time that Steven, Tacyarg or myself edit we leave a terse explanation of what we have done and often the reason.

This was a tricky one to sort out- caused by one school being merged into one that had changed its name but not its URN, and the shared sixthform. At some point in 2013 it became a academy, and legally a new school. I assure you that with in Wiki-land the structure it is correct.

All the beloved content from The 2018 version of this article is still available to restore. However here we came up with a very serious problem all facts and more so judgements, on Wikipedia must be referenced. Generally the references should be independent from the school- (secondary sources)- GIAS and old Ofsted reports are excellent- the older ones do actual give a description of the school, they will mention individual departments which can make for a useful paragraph. For many bits of internal organisation such as 8fe, vertical tutor groups- condensed KS3 the prospectus (a primary source can be used). The Canterbury Academy reference 8 was a gem. A primary source but giving so much detail- I covered myself with a quote from reference 12. As it is published under a Open Government license we are permitted to copy from it too. The stuff from 2018 didn't have a single secondary source reference- and two dead links to school published material. Find the references and the material can be restored

You mentioned your desire to help. Photos of the school please lok at Wikishootme photo tool it shows hundreds of Chichester but nothing on the school (A very common problem in Wikipedia for obvious reasons. If you have a key and can access the schools camera,(Switch on the GPS) you could help out by showing every detail of the school as well as a few generic shots. Use the tool- Upload file found on the left panel. You could put them in the Category:Buildings in Chichester and that can be sorted out later.--ClemRutter (talk) 19:08, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again - can I help correct this if I have a conflict of interest? (TJW713 (talk) 19:54, 15 May 2020 (UTC))[reply]

I have consulted with other editors. They agree with my interpretation, that you have already declared your CoI here on the talk page. So if it is an item of fact (with reference) go ahead and make the changes. In the summary box, explain what you have done as normal and on the first of your edits add CoI declaration on talk page. If this an opinion- don't, but write what you want to say here on the talk page and someone will help you out.ClemRutter (talk) 20:04, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
