Proposed deletion
[edit]Stormandfury refuted proposed deletion of the article with the rationale: nonsense assertion as the event is clearly important news. It’s a major diplomatic incident as indicated by the scope+scale of the news coverage and the status of the officials involved (among other criteria)
. WP:NOTNEWS implies that simply being reported by various outlets does not necessarily make the event long-lasting and notable (which is why that policy exists). Maybe it could to go to a community discussion, though I'm also mindful that often doing so when an event is still recent doesn't always achieve fair consensus.
Stormandfury: maybe it would be worth trying to actually assert in the article why this is an article-worthy notable event, rather than just reporting on an incident which uses refs only from 3 separate sources. Bungle (talk • contribs) 20:42, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Bungle WP:EVENTCRIT "Events are also very likely to be notable if they have widespread (national or international) impact and were very widely covered in diverse sources". The impact is nationally across the U.S. and China, and it's being widely covered in mainstream media. If it matters, my personal opinion is that this seems likely to have a non-trivial impact on relations. Nobody has a crystal ball, but for now this appears to meet the criteria for inclusion. - @Rolf h nelson: I think the jist of my point is that we often don't know how notable an event will be until some time has elapsed (with some exceptions, though I don't think this falls into an exception). I do accept that events with current reporting are generally not worth putting to community consensus until it can be determined if there is lasting impact. This to me seems more like an event that got news coverage because of what it actually was, but no more or less than you'd reasonably expect. I did note in my closing sentence to the creator that expanding the article and demonstrating why this is a notable event would be beneficial. At this moment, I don't think this is sufficiently asserted. Bungle (talk • contribs) 06:00, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think it needs to be in the article, but a BBC analyst suggests the existence of an "impact it could have on relations between Britain and China". [1]

- I believe the article is notable – at any rate, keeping all of this content at the newly-created Consulate General of China, Manchester would be totally undue. I have some concerns about the title, but would definitely be against deletion at this stage. QueenofBithynia (talk) 07:36, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

- We already report that a melee occurred. We need an WP:RS for each individual use of force that we single out in the text, otherwise it's WP:UNDUE. Rolf H Nelson (talk) 00:40, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
