purpose
[edit]I think that the previous classifications of Native American languages is interesting. It is important to be aware of because many authors (esp. of less scholarly material) do not use the most current classification scheme (which is in Goddard 1996, Cambell 1997, & Mithun 1999).
Maybe someone else is interested in this. Please enjoy. — ishwar (SPEAK) 17:33, 2005 Mar 28 (UTC)

- Where is Campbell 1997?Maunus 14:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- sure, we can add it. For N. America, he doesnt differ much from Goddard & Mithun; for S. America, he pretty much follows Kaufman (although there are more exceptions here); for Mesoamerica, I dont really know who to compare him with (but i'm sure that you know...). – ishwar (speak) 15:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
New sections / Major expansion
[edit]I've added the Proposals, Linguistic areas, and Theories sections, all of which I've based off Campbell's 1997 book (American Indian Languages). — Stevey7788 (talk) 06:00, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- I've just moved the new sections to Indigenous languages of the Americas. — Stevey7788 (talk) 06:31, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
